Been reading a lot of info the last couple of days about some of the ways planting in such an early timeframe can change the pests a young corn crop might face. With insect pests, one agronomist told me that, with things like rootworms, the Bt gene and soil insecticides both may lose their efficacy by the time the pest becomes active. Sounds like things like breaking up soil-residual herbicides into 2 separate applications, for example, may be a good way to keep up your weed control this spring if you're getting an early start.
So, are you taking different steps to control weeds and pests in your fields this year if you're getting an early start?
