Here is a blog from the U/Ill about the economic cost fo the Birds Point Levee breach. We are seeing smaller but similar consequences from water release on the Missouri. We've talked in other threads about the rise of ocean levels and the effect on coastal areas.
Can we afford to treat all these situations as disaster areas? How many times can we rebuild New Orleans before it stays flooded? How about rebuilding the levees in hopes that they won't breach next time? Why does Cedar Rapids rebuild a court house on an island when it flooded in 08? Do none of us learn nothing? Do we make all decisions based on what we see on populist quaisi-news TV shows?
