Great Plains Winter Wheat a Disaster?

Well, I just finished reading this article, man it is just too much for me to handle.  The farmer's planted their winter wheat in dry dirt (non irrigated circles) and it died.  The Irrigated wheat is not much better.   I do not know alot about growing wheat, I grew it about 30 years ago, but I would think that under current Federal Crop Insurance Rules, if you plant seeds in dry dirt and they never sprout or die after sprouting, doesn't that fall under "Substandard Farming Practices",

I found the last paragraph very interesting, when they were crying that well they will just have to get buy on "crop insurance".  Well I would hope so!  Hell the insurance price on Winter Wheat is well over twice what they were getting for wheat five years ago.  Sooooo. . . here we have a prime example of farmers farming the government, planting seeds they know will never sprout without irrigation.   Of course . . . I am all for it!  I would rather see these farmers get the money, than the Banksters on Wall Street who are the rea welfare recepients.   Adios Amigo's John
