Re: Cold........est

Batten down the hatches!!!  Looks like a real Arctic Polar vortex coming.  c-x-1,  does the Gulf at Galveston ever freeze?  I've got the corn stove chewing through 75lbs. a day now.  That's part of my contribution to the demand side.:smileyhappy:

Re: Cold........est

You are correct Longcreek, if corn was $8 a bu I would be very happy to burn LP gas like we did last year.  LP is near $2 and climbing. Makes $4 corn work well.

Re: Cold........est

$300/month is not unusual up here in the trundra

60% of the time, it works every time.

Re: Cold........est

I burn a lot of locust trees that cattle rub over in the pasture. For the price of running an 034 for half a day, the house stays warm for a month. Outdoor woodstove with a 2'x2' door and up to 3' long pieces. It fits those "allnighter" logs and I rarely have to split anything.
I know I'm a wuss, but loading silage 1st thing in the morning... 10-15 is cold enough for me on an open station tractor all this past week!!

Re: Cold........est

Have an outdoor furnace too.

Cut the wood small enough so I can handle it otherwise it goes right in.

Clean up down wood mostly but good trees from thinning too.

Point out to everyone I get to deduct the cost of heat for our home unlike anyone buying gas oil or electricity.

Cost of saw and tractor are deductable expenses as I am improving the woodlot.

Re: Cold........est

Thanks for asking Wind - all time low in Galveston was 14* 1983............

Also, an interesting snow event from Christmas eve 2004 in SE Tx, all further southeast of Houston- from Wikipedia:

The 2004 Christmas Eve Snowstorm was a rare weather event that took place in Louisiana and Texas in the United States on December 24, 2004 before the storm moved northeast to affect the coastal sections of the Mid-Atlantic states and New England in the succeeding few days.
