Yes it bothers me a lot.  Not for profits should not be on that list.  IMO------ churches as well as universities.

Probably what bothers me more, I used to be a lot higher on that very same list, until I got suckered into their (the USDA) stinking "acre" program.  

As long as ISU continues to do research on pests and their control, crop production improvements, and other projects that benefit all of us in agriculture directly, I don't think I will complain too loudly. If they have to play the USDA "game" to get funding to make it happen, I guess that is what they will do. I don't imagine much would happen if they just passed the hat around looking for donations.  I fear that if the donations came from large chemical companies and such, the information generated might tend to be skewed.

I don't have a problem with the college programs getting the same money for raising the same crops as everyone else. Here the state farms at the prisons don't get any subsidies. The one near me that they decided not to farm any longer was available for rent and there was no info at the FSA. It had HEL and wetlands determinations but no crop history.
