My cousin is on this bike ride, e-mailed me stating he saw 6" irrigated growing near Uvalde and Hondo TX.  Just west of San Antonio.  On east, does their route take them near you?

Central IA now has snow, NW wind at 21MPH and 27*

A lot of corn was planted the second week of April last year.  This year it will be much later.

clayton58, i wonder same thing, but i believe that area of wheat is out of dormancy.....sw should know.......sw, what do you think?????. thanks

Wind,

your cousin is a SERIOUS bike rider - 3000 miles!!! Yes, looks like the route takes 'em just 30 miles North of where we are in Houston.

That corn near Uvalde, Hondo is in Freeze area, as well.....what a difference a year makes.....one extreme to the other. Hmmmmmm, the EXTREMES are NOT over!!!

SAY, when emerged corn 2-6" is winterkilled, it simply re-emerges, yes. Does not have to re-plant???

cx1, very early emerged corn can survive some light freezes. Larger plants are more susceptible to higher temps..

32F may not kill, but set back significantly.. vigor can be sharply reduced. -2C will kill.

Hard to say... we got some frosts on corn last year, and it moved on.. some guys may have good parts of fields and crappy parts too.

O PS, forgot about how temp readings are only measurements of above ground air.. I can't rember: is air closer to the ground colder than the air above it? I believe this is the case.. I am sure someone who cares more than me can clarify.

Re: SE Texas - Brrrrrr!

yes, the colder air is denser so it is closest to ground and in low lying areas (vallys, etc). I was just asking IF plant is killed, the seed STILL survives....generally, right???
