Yesterday's finish was with a litle blue smoke in the air.
Been having issues with the corn head. Doesn't feed well on two rows.
Well last Monday being the day after another big wet event. I took it off the combine and stood it up on it's end and found some little things and replaced the slightly used up parts on those two rows. Seemed ok so yesterday afternoon in the MUD took it out and tried it. . . . . NO improvement what so ever. In the 100bu corn OK in the 150 bu corn 2.5mph. In the good corn the first # was a 1 and no second #. What a frustration.
I just put up with it and as I was ready to quit about 10:30 last night, 75 ft of row to finish up the land. Thump bump ??????? yep you guessed it one of the center snoots caught on something and folded under the head.
Well I looked for a new to me head today. Most are either way over priced or are as worn as mine and need the same fixes (except for that center snoot and whole assy. thing).
After that frustrating look about. I just drove on up the road some more and got a nice snoot assy from the junk yd. Hinges everything $250
Most of the crop is gathered... but not all. Having a hard time believing all the beans scattered around to be harvested in the 100+ mile each way drive this afternoon.
Quite a bit of corn but the bean thing really sticks out.
Any way tomorrows project is stand that misserable head on it's tail and fix one row unit and replace the other with a good used one I have on a 4 wide head. Might have so much fun that I'll replace both of them.
Just one of the joys of this hobby.

ECIN: now you are starting to sound like my wife.
She was riding with me the other night and asked just how long I was going to keep this running of junk up. (I'm thinking I'm on the short rows there).
Probably a good thing she wasn't with me yesterday when I was shown that really spiffy 1063 for ONLY $14,500. Steel hoods. It was nice, header controls for field tracker, header height, lights, high tin. It would only be 10% of whats left in the field to harvest.
I kind of wonder what time this morning in the middle of changing out parts I'll say "screw it" and have them bring it out? Spend my "gambling bu" first instead of last?

Where are you located? I have a decent 1063 with only a couple seasons on knives and chains for sale. Nothing wrong with it, just wouldn't fit on new machine. Located in NW Indiana. Mike 219-3Zero9-0035

4pm Sat and still turning wrenches on the old head. Having a cookie & coke cola break and back at it in a few minutes and put the rebuilt row unit on the outside row, and already made adjustments to the other row. If it doesn't work I may be making a mad dash to Ind.
