Is buying july 13 puts to hedge '13 crop a bad ideas ? The spread is 1.20 or so, if the market stays strong the spread should stay the about same. If the the market tanks the spread should tighten which in turn would help capture carry ?

If you are "hedging" what crop are you harvesting in June/July? Wheat or Oats?

Do not confuse hedging with speculating.
