How could there be any benefit or advantage to that when the signature is in an envelope 2 and sometimes 3 steps before actually seeing and  marking a ballot?

Stick to the crooked machines and the algorithms. That’s at least conceivable in some sort of a funky Sci-Fi way.

Say the vote counters. Now they have to prove they verified the signatures. All they have to do is produce the proof. Should be simple.
