Re: $1500 bypass surgery

Lasik surgery for the eyes has become quite reasonable in the USA, too, as it becomes a mass produced commodity.

I think breast augmentation surgery is getting cheaper, too, so maybe "Sally" can get that operation done to go with another new identity for her/him/it.

Nothing drives up costs like government bureaucracy. Well, greed and basic supply shortages help, too.

The jokers in the liberal wing think that the answer to lowering medical costs is to simply have the government regulate how much each procedure can cost.

Re: $1500 bypass surgery

It might surprise you to know that some of those mexican dentists are americans. Who knows what thweir motivations are for doing that but I can tell you that if you have one of those fancy dancy gps systems in your car it will show you dozens of dental care office in Progresso like it will show you eating joints inTulsa.

Perhaps the money earned in Mexico stays in mexico and avoids uncle sams tax code. As in this country money earned here ends up in mexico to support extended families in mexico.

Re: $1500 bypass surgery

That article seemed to be saying that malpractice suits don't result in very many losses to insurers and Drs.--only 1 in 6 get money. I also don't think that most Drs. sanction their colleagues because they don't wish to get involved. Some would but most would ignore it plus they know that humans make mistakes and it could happen to them.

Re: $1500 bypass surgery

What these ambulance chasing lawyer-parasites do is cause doctors and hospitals to order extra tests so they've got themselves covered in case of a lawsuit.   Who pays?  Not the legal profession.   We pay.

The lawyer-parasites run up the costs of the doctors'  insurance premiums.   Who pays?  We do.

The trial lawyers are major contributors to the Dem Party,  who make sure there is no tort reform.    Adopting loser pays would greatly reduce the money these ambulance chasing parasites make.

As usual,  snookums if FOS.

Re: $1500 bypass surgery

What government bureaucracy drives up costs? I think you will find that most doctors and clinics would rather deal with government bureaucracy than insurance companies.

BTW. most fraud in the medicare system is caused by fraudulent billings from doctors hospitals and clinics. Hospitalizing patients that do not need hospital care. That sir is capitalistic fraud not government fraud.

Theivery is  rampant in all parts of society. You don't think the medical profession should have limits but you seem to think the poor working slob should have his wages limited. Why do you think that way?

Re: $1500 bypass surgery

That Bumper Sticker/campaing slogan is SOOOOOO 20 years ago.

Those extra tests are often done so that the health management corp can pay for all of that shiney equitment as much as anything. And keep the profits and investor returns in the corp up  And more so than the tests, it's the frequesnt repeat of them.

The lawsuit point has faded significantly with the growth of HMOs.  Doctors are employees and covered by balnket liability.

Good, once effective stuff though.  Made for a bunch of GOP  State House and U.S. Representatives in it's day that have been darned hard to get rid of as they seem to be able to flex nicely in to whatever the winger cause of the week may be.

They can do what they do because during the 8 years of bush and boyz, most everything that was regulated was DE-REGULATED!!!

Re: $1500 bypass surgery

Is it just me, or did you just more or less say that you thought a big reason an American might go to Mexico, and be able to perform cheaper dental procedures, was because of the high US taxes?
