1st Amendment vs. 2nd

If it is appropriate to use violence as a last resort in defense of 2A, why not 1A?

There is NO First Amendment without the Second Amendment.

Craig`s exactly right.  I`ll add there`s has not so far been violence in defense of 2A.  So far it`s courts, voting and writing checks to the NRA.

This so-called 1A seems to lead to violence every time it`s exercised.

"as a last resort"   Well, the short answer is neither 1A or 2A in the history of the united States have been anywhere near justifiable violence being required to defend them.

Re: 1st Amendment vs. 2nd

Here's a perfect real world example of how out of whack the balance between the 1st and 2nd Amendments has become.

The gerrymandered GOP MI legislature made it illegal to take signs into the gallery because they might fall and hurt someone. But it is totally legal to take guns.

BTW, this is reducto ad absurdum but the whole things is already. If it is illegal to take guns to a Presidential appearance then it can be illegal to take them lots of places.
