2010 US federal income tax rates

These were the 2010 federal income tax rates only for a married couple filing jointly

Adjusted gross income

0    to             16500          10% X      16500                  $1675        $1675 net taxes    10%

$16500   to  68000          15% X         $51250            $7687.5      $9362 net taxes    13..8 %

$68000  To  $137300       25%         $69300              $17325       $26687   net taxes  19.4%

$137500  to 209250         28%         71950                 $20146       $46833  Net taxes  22.4%

$209250 to   $373650.    33%         $164400             $54252       $101085  net taxes 27.1%

$373650 a& above       35%

So the federal income tax only approaches 28%  only on income above $373650 because you pay different rates at different income levels You get the first $16500 at the ten % rate and the next  $51250 at 15% and so forth as your income increases.

Only the three lower brackets are subject to SS taxes but Medicare/medicaid rates continue on.

I would think your point to all this is the rates are to high. The federal government needs to shrink. A lot.
