22 a day

I saw a website that says 22 veterans suicide a day in the US from all sorts of problems.  There is something wrong there!!!! What is happening about rehabilitation?  I wont be long before you will have no veterans to celebrate.

I have read where the suicide rate among veterans is lower than the suicide rate of the rest of the population.

Re: 22 a day

It is a serious issue over here Colin. In my opinion, one problem is that vets typically use a separate medical system than civilians do, called the Veterans Administration (VA). I have heard from many who use the VA, and not many are happpy with it and I have heard distinct criticism over their mental care facilities and the quality of the doctors and specialists. Waiting periods can be long in many cases. I would prefer that we completely do away with the VA except for special trauma units specifically designed to treat war wounds and pay for these people to see the doctor or specialist of their choice. I think they would be better served and mental health care would greatly improve. There have been many troubling stories about how the VA deals with mental care. Our Congress has often been less than supportive of improving the quality of the VA and there have been scandals involved about lying about waiting times and success of treatment.

Let me add and emplasize that this is my opinion and I could certainly be wrong, at least in part. Whatever way it it, I think vets deserve excellent care and as good care as the average American Citizen (barring the special units I mentioned which should be specialized).

Apparently in Israel there is little if any PTSD. Everyone serves in the military so they don't have to re-enter society and hear every #$%^head tell them "thank you for your service."

Re: 22 a day

Elaborating further.

Our semi-mercenary force serves in two capacities. First as soldiers, then when they get home they are used as propaganda objects for the permanent warfare neocon agenda.

I read where you are wrong more often than the rest of the population.
