Re: 30 Statistics Prove- Elite Getting Richer, The Poor- Poorer, Middle Class Destroyed

There is a great deal of debate over whether protectionism worsened the great depression, but the US was a different country then.  We were an exporting nation.  As an importing nation who's government need more revenue, I don't think tariffs would make things worse, and hey Bennie wants inflation doesn't he (although it technically wouldn't be inflation).

Maybe this country will never go back to making plastic toys, but we're even a net importer of food.  When we set off on the road to free trade we were told America would sell the technology the world needed.  But countries like China have required technology transfers in order to access its markets.  If we have to give away our edge we have no edge.   People like Bill Gates have lobbied the government for more H1B visas, with the lie that we have a shortage of tech workers, while I know software people who have gone long periods without work and have seen their wages fall over the last 10 years.   There is no shortage of tech workers, just a shortage of ones that will work for a daily pittance.

Cut income taxes, raise tariffs at this point what could it harm?

The free trade chickens have some home to roost, John. From now on we will see our standard of living on a downward slope, regardless who`s President. If you look at say 2004 as your highest living as far as cable tv, extra cars, vacations, ect. From now on the "cable package" channels will be dropped, more "staycations", one car will have to suffice. I just had a root canal on a tooth that was already had a $800 cap. I haven`t gotten the bill yet on the canal, but I`m sure it`ll end up being a $1600 tooth. There are a lot of commercials for "affordable dentures" in the future, problem teeth will be pulled, when you run out of teeth you get affordable dentures.Smiley Sad

always be assured if the rich dont make money the poor will starve --ck out the jobs data all the jobs were created by who you term rich folks with private industry---if you dont like these rich folks ---show them move or quit your job  that will show them ---no country ever prospers when 8% of taxpayers pay 64% of taxes which is what we have now and obamo wants to give even more to those who refuse to work but then he is trying to breed more dumocrat voters

Just another way to transfer the tax burden to consumers.

Do you even think before you bleat? Goodness gracious it is republicans, business and investors that are trying to tranfer the tax burden to the poor and middle class. I can see why you don't use your given name. You wouldn't want the world to know who is really  posting such crap.

If this country is to prosper we have to export. Tariffs are nothing but protectionism. Tariffs reduce competition. It is competition that delivers a quality product at an affordable price. If we protect domestic production we will not lower our cost of production, leading to even less exports. If we are to prosper we must be the world's low cost producer of products that people want and need. Our tariffs can not be any higher than those of our competition. We need to create a business climate for industry that is more favorable than that of foreign countries. We need as much cheap energy as we can get and our tariffs need to be sold to the world on truthful grounds such as the need for all countries to protect the air and water from pollution. I'm talking about real pollution, not the made up man made global warming kind.

No matter how you slice it. If you want the taxes paid by consumers rather than based on income, you are placing a disporportionate tax bill on those that must consume most of their income. Leaving business and the reinvestor class with a lighter tax burden.
