Re: A little clarification on climate change
It's interesting Noxy that those that were always for full blown energy production fail to understand the the supplies that are available today for $100 per barrel weren't consumed when it was worth $30 per barrel.
Hw ironic that we used millions of barrels of cheap import crude while letting domestic supplies abide quietly in our underground reserve.
Now those that don't believe in man made global wartming are going to reap the reward of oil production from the arctic circle. So an iceless arctic cap will open the door to even more climate changing oil production. I wonder if they will stop when the oceans start boiling.

Re: the demonization of the educated class
If your educated as a science major or a school teacher the right automatically assumes that they are ignorant or that they are pox on society and certainly not with an opinion worth sharing. Every body is a ssumed to have an agenda as if you don't have an agenda.
Speaking of Al gore can you mention any democratic politician that the right has not ridiculed and demonized in the last 40 years, I have no liberal agenda other than to raise all ships in the promise of america and have no interest in putting barriers up so that people can't vote or be heard.
With your objective you will do both to try to rig the system in your favor. Disqualify voters and make the richest voice in america the loudes political voice. So the Koch brothers has a loud voice but Joe six pack can barely be heard.

Re: A little clarification on climate change
Yeah, but there is no question that the USA is the best explored and drilled oil province on earth- the $30 stuff is all gone except for some strippers and a few lucky small hits. The COP on Bakken and Eagle Ford is closer to $80.
Let's say that the cornucopian muckymucks are right ands 2/3rds of the world's fossil fuels are left in place.
For all intents and purposes, the cheap and easy first third is gone. We're nosing into the second third, which we can proably do with some difficulty because of increasing cost.
The last third will never be extracted because of cost. It might be argued that it will be so valuable that of course we're going to extract it but that ignores the fact that the essential cost involved in extraction is energy, direct or indirect, and there simply isn't any purpose in extracting fossil fules at a neglible EROEI (energy return on energy invested).
There is important stuff to be done with that middle third by future generations- nitrogen fertilizers, feedstocks for essential petrochemicals. And we're going to get into that middle third in a serious way even if there's a transition away from fossil fuels.

I just read an article in my latest edition of Macleans magazine titled "The Dumbing Down of America"
Unfortunately not available online yet without a subscription but it say much of what you said that there is a sizable % of US society that refuses to accept what science knows and just 'believes' in their own opinions and those put out by some high profile 'mouthpieces'.
It is a long article covering a number of things including people with only high school education leading anti vacine campaigns while deaths from measles in the world are in the hundreds of thousands each year there are few if any in countries with a good vacine programs.
It goes into how little reading most people do and how the amount is decreasing and then those who still read a fair amount now rely on the internet and tend to only read sites that reinforce their opinions rather than read critically and with the ability to reject others opinions that do not have any facts to back them up.
Evidence is not nneeded to have an opinion but is a requirement for scientific studies as only studies that can be backed by facts and replicated by others are published.
BUT a sizable % of the population rejects knowledgable people as 'elites' and go with the dumbed down opinions.

Re: A little clarification on climate change
We have experience the so called wisdom of your brother on these pages. If he was an owner of an NBA team it would be quite temporary. Having said that, I don't beleive too many are impressed with his infinite wisdom.
Hundreds of millions of cars and truck and factories spewing CO2 gases into the atmosphere is more significant that you wizzing in the ocean. However if we consider your BS you would be way over the top.
Don't beleive me. Ask governor lightfoot or that vander platt guy or vice president Palin.
