I think there is a basic truth to what you are saying, but we Democrats need to admit that we are often turning a blind eye to the fringes of our party as well. There have been and will always be fringe elements that gravitate towards one party or the other these days and with the media able to pick up on anything, anywhere, oddities will surface.

The main difference is that I think Democrats know a radical "liberal" when they see them and while offering little criticism, they also offer little to no support. So called Republicans are quick to pick up on examples of fringe activities, point the finger and claim all Democrats are the same and all Democrats support the fringe extremists. This is of course a false and misleading tactic and I believe it is one of the greatest mistakes Republicans have made over the past decade. If Republicans truly believe all Democrats are as evil as they claim, then their efforts go towards only counteracting a fringe of the Democratic party while leaving the mainstream untouched and unaffected by their rebuttals and arguments. It's a win-win situation for Democrats to let the Republican hounds constantly bark up the wrong tree and chase ghosts. If this website is any indication of the majority of Republicans or at least the loud minority, just think how often some crazy fringe Democrat activity is lambasted here and held up as an example that all Democrats think alike.

If I had any advice for Republicans, it would dbe to look back and look at the heart of the party and give up the extremist views and undermining tactics of the showboat broadcast crowd. Republicans have to be the party of the people and represent them if they want to win. Stick with the principals, but moderate them towards the average citizen's needs and wants.

Some might label you that but not me!

You sound like the same emphatic dolt that was claiming victory before the election. Your prognosticating is not too accurate and I would think you would temper your remarks before embarrassing your self. AGAIN!

He's registered and locked in now though. No coming back to the middle possible. His instincts tell him to....he's written about that here, but in the end, the Norquist-Bachmann GOP is his home.

Best comment letter I've read anywhere lately, from TPM:

"Honestly, I find this a bit disturbing. I mean, two weeks ago all these people were defending everything Romney said. He lost the election in part because of some of those criticizing him now.

I can’t remember any Democratic presidential nominee being so vilified after a losing election, even Dukakis.

Sure, some candidates are better than others but Romney was by far not the worst candidate the GOP has ever put up. In fact, he was not the worst to run against Obama, if you get my drift. (Hint: he didn’t choose Sarah Palin as his running mate.)

To me this says a great deal more about the GOP than about Romney. If you think a guy like this is so bad, don’t nominate him. Don’t spend a BILLION DOLLARS trying to get him elected then a week later say…’Oops, we goofed. He was a mistake.’

The Republican Party has a problem, but it is not one candidate; it is not packaging or branding; it is not messaging that is sinking the GOP. It is the core beliefs of the vast majority of Republicans.

Their problem is their war on women; war on gays; war on minorities. It is their war on science and math and logic and education and reality. It is listening to nuckle heads like Sean Hannity, Rush Limbaugh, Laura Ingraham, Michael Savage, Ann Coulter and Donald Trump. It is allowing entertainers to determine the direction and policy positions of a major political party. It is following the teaching of extremist religions leaders like the US Catholic Bishops.

But most of all, it is the GOP’s utter lack of respect for anyone who is not like them; supporting an idiot obscure congressman who shouts “You lie” at the President of the United States during the State of the Union Address. Not repudiating truly crazy people who cling to the thumbless notion that Barack Obama was born in Kenya. It is supporting an insane governor who waves her finger publicly in the face of the President because he rejects her lunatic positions. When the GOP allows or supports these actions, they are condoning disrespect for the majority of Americans who are not aging white men.

Ultimately the Republicans now show Romney the same disrespect and loathing it has for anyone they don’t believe is part of the “Real America.”

That is why the GOP is failing. Not because Romney ran an unsuccessful campaign".

We know why Romney lost, he is a rich elitist, tax dodger, that killed a steel worker's wife, was going to take birth control away from women, and that was going to take from the middle class and give it all to his rich buddies and he pick the most extreme right wing thumper to be his running mate. AMAZING how all of a sudden the left have fallen in love with Romney /Ryan.

Who says that propaganda efforts do not work.

Warren County did its part, thank you very much.   We are the most evenly divided county in Iowa and Iowa is the most evenly divided state in the country.  Romney won here and in Madison County (where I also volunteer), we sacked the Boswell attack machine nicely.  We voted in the majority to kick out the activist judge in Warren and Madison County and won most of the other races.  I can not control things outside of my working area, but here, where I have a say in what is done, we did okay.

How did things go in your area?   Well, let's see,  Vilsack got sacked and King is king of the Great Northwest again. In Oklahoma, well, let's say that it can not get much more Conservative than it is.  In fact, I wish that a quarter of the Oklahoma folks would move into the East half of Iowa and at least 8 thousand of them into the Council Bluffs area.

Our best bet would be to go after the Hispanic business men and women.  By nature, they are conservative and can be shown the light, just like Gov. Suzanne Martinez of New Mexico was.

Re: Re:Crock of Wet, Steaming Manure

Craig, I admire you optimism, and deeply thank you for your patriotism, but it is over. This was the most important election of our life time and we gave Barack Obama another 4 years. The country can not survive this. We are well on our way to Greece and the rest of the socialist republic of Europe. I don't blame anyone in particular, it really started with FDR and LBJ sealed our fate with the war on poverty. There are simply more of them than there are of us. And now we will grant amnesty to another 10-20 million ILLEGALs who will become legal democrat voters, plus will call home on their Obama phones and tell that many more how good life is here north of the border adding them all to our welfare roll. Deficits might come down a bit in time for the 14 election but will soon explode once there is no more military to cut and the rich have fled. Unemployment will sky rocket, but won't matter because the dems will not allow the rich, racist repigs to cut any of their benefits. The good times will roll until we can no longer barrow or print money. SS will be kicked down the toad by folding 401Ks' and IRAs into the system. It will be done voluntarily by the people to keep the rich repigs from writing rules to funnel that money to their rich banktser friends. Once the military is gutted we will be easy pickings for the marxist extremist of the world and the young will refuse to defend this country. Why would they fight to defend a SS system that confiscates their pay but they know will never survive for them. Why defend a nation that spends most of it's wealth on social benefits for those who do not, or will not work. Who will fight to defend a nation so over paid, unionized TSA agent can stick their hands down the pants of their girl friends, wives, young daughters or sons. It's over Craig, the people have learned they can vote what ever they want from the treasury, they think the "government" or the rich have unlimited funding. Like all good union members, they will never vote for reform or to do with less, it is full steam ahead and if you can't get it from one groups you take it from another. Keep your guns clean, good luck my friend, hope to see you on the other side once the time comes. Remember, Almighty God works all things for His good, praise be to His name.

Amazing lot of words there for you 3020.

I see you worked your 'god' into it.

You did not explain why your 'god' chose to elect Mr Obama again though.

Hey Gough, I think the story said that 11 million less voted in 2012 than in 2008, it`s just that the "0bamaphone people" got out and voted.  0bama got LESS votes than he did in 2008, I think that he was the only president that got re elected with LESS votes than when he was first elected. Of course he`ll get the 0bamaphone gimme gimme gimme crowd, they`ll crawl on broken glass for him, but he LOST votes from the smarter middle-class.  Now, those votes didn`t go to Romney, whether it`s cause he`s a Mormon, or a "flip-flopper" or because he reminded them of the guy that fired their dad or what.  But 11 million previous voters said "fcuk it! I`m not wasting my time".   My Dad learned that back in `60 or `64 with Goldwater`s defeat, maybe Romney is my "Goldwater"? ...well we all know that 0bama is this country`s "Waterloo"Smiley Very Happy  But for any party that thinks they have some sort of mandate ...40% in this country seem to consistantly pick "None of the above" .  "None of the above" wins every election, none of the above got 11 million more votes than he or she did in 2008.  But you guys that have tingley legs over 0bama, he hasn`t taken this country on a different path than Bush #43 the one you all hate...oh 0bama is more palatable cause he like gays, baby killin` and giving out freebies...other than that he`s just George W Bush in black-face.

Comrade - You can make excuses all day about why people did or did not vote. You cannot with any certainty say they chose none of the above as their candidate.  As you know the flippancy which voting is taken in your country creates that very same complacency. In this case they didn't have to vote so why bother. I do not subscribe to your theory that Obama wooed them with this or that.  It is called electioneering and in his case, very smart electioneering

It is unrealistic and ignorant to say he likes gays, baby killing and giving away freebies. They all make outrageous promises.  Baby killing is not how the rest of society see abortion and gays have the same rights as you.  They pay taxes and serve in the forces.  It is your stupid ignorant religion which forbids you from seeing reason. I am bouyed to see you admit Obama hasn't made it any worse than Bush because that is the case.  The only difference is the starting line.  Obama inherited the massive debt and GFC and Bush started out virtually owing nothing.  There is a slight difference.

CRAIG THE GREAT!!  I think you may ready for at least the entire state of  Ioway.  Humble is NOT your middle name.  What the OWG party really needs to do is pick someone who won't pick a radical idiot for a running mate and doesn't basically say that 47% of the population are worthless.  THEN you might win another election.  OH, and, you have to be able and willing to COMPROMISE in Congress111
