Re: AZ Congresswoman shot!

MSNBC and their leftwingnut mouth piece called for revolution and now they have it. And we know it is not a hate crime, she's a Jew. The perp is a good Jew hating communist, probably walks within a year.

Re: AZ Congresswoman shot!

Within one minute of hearing of the Congresswoman`s shooting it was highly predictable that subhumans like Krugman would try to politicize the tragedy. I`m sure there will be more from the "never let a crisis go to waste" crowd.  The way it sounds the nutter shouldn`t have had access to a gun in the first place.

Only if you consider that most republicans are deranged.

Actually, he tried to get in the military but they rejected him. They are NOT saying why he was rejected.

There were reasons that hangings in the old west were done at high noon. By giving everybody time to attend, the victims could feel justice

Check the definition of the word 'justice'

Hanging or killing someone is not justice. It is described as 'vengenance'

And government involvement in healthcare is not socialism.

You can always tell a canadian, but you can't tell him much.

I guess I was wrong Hawken. I thought it was you that lectured some one in another thread about not answering the questions and just dancing around the discussion.

Yep, must have been someone else.

Sorry about the mistaken identity.

But again you are right you did not tell me much!

So sorry Canuck. Please highlight your question. I must have missed it.

If you want to continue the discussion we certainly can. Try reading this first:

The primary purpose of the death-penalty is not revenge. It is retribution. In On Capital Punishment, William H. Baker notes: “Retribution is properly a satisfaction or, according to the ancient figure of justice and her scales, a restoration of a disturbed equilibrium. As such it is a proper, legitimate and moral concept. Scripture makes a clear line of distinction between this doctrine and feelings of personal hatred by forbidding such feelings and the actions to which they would lead. Capital punishment as a form of retribution is a dictate of the moral nature, which demands that there should be a just portion between the offense and the penalty.”

.

In fact, Jesus’ quote in Matthew 5:38 of the Hebrew lex talinois, which is found in Exodus 21:23-25, was a statement of proper retribution by civil authorities. Its intention was to protect offenders from excessive penalties that didn’t fit the crime. Unfortunately, however, some in Christ’s day were using it as a justification for personal retaliation. In other words, when Christ spoke of “an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth,” He wasn’t repudiating government’s responsibility to maintain order, but correcting an illegitimate use of the text and advocating the way His followers should personally respond to offenses.

OK so we can argue over the correct word but I will still maintain that killing someone to prove they should not kill someone is not punishment or 'just' but rather society trying to acquire 'revenge' or 'vengeance'.

Now some argue for the 'eye for an eye' etc. punishment and if we look at killing some one because they killed someone we would beat up someone found guilty of beating another. We would break the arm of someone found guilty of breaking anothers arm and I suppose we would rape the wife of a rapist.

There is no excuse for taking anothers life even if your bible says so.

Just as an aside, Canuck. Gabrelle Giffords has a concealed weapons permit. Done her a lot of good didn't it?

Yes I read that and it only confirms my contention that more guns are not the answer, fewer guns will reduce gun crimes.

I  thought that  if people were arms  could some of this be prevented  this from happening.  butthen  things are happening in split seconds  and if more than one weapon comes out by carriers they have a split second  on who is the good or bad guys.   Wrong decison and you have like in combat friendly fire victims            could a  wrong decison end up in  as manslaughter charge.

Just imagine everyone pulling out their gun at the scene of something like this.

Now try to figure out who is the 'good' guy and who is the 'bad' guy.

I expect there would be more bodies, not less.

Now think about the police coming on this situation with everyone armed and some shooting who would they 'take out'?

Time to purchase a new Smith&Wesson next week before they further tighten up the handgun laws.

Re: AZ Congresswoman shot!

It always sounds good in theory but could be much diferent in reality.   Just cause you allow gun in the hands of what you think are respondisble  people doesn't mean they will acrt respondisble in event such as this.    Could be good at one but bad at another.    In combat t its batptism  under fire
