Can't have the farmer selling directly to the public. That would leave out the trucker, the processor, the marketer, the retailer, oh and the regulator. We need to illegalize anything you could sell directly to a hungry person so we can have unfettered capitalism.

I gave a talk to a group on local food systems and a guy got really obstreperous with me about how socialists were trying to kill everyone's retirement becasue we all hold  those fat, salt and sugar addiction stocks.

The guy weighed about 300 pounds and was hooked up to an 02 tank.

An excellent example of what Kunstler calls "the psychology of previous investment."  As a society we are not going to make any rational decisions about energy, food, medicine, financial control fraud etc. because there is too fear of the short term cost to what we've already committed our hopes to.

It was primarily about how much of a food dollar spent at the supermarket or fast food franchise stays in the community vs. farm direct food purchases.
