What you have to understand that a country of 1 billion people that is in the beginnings of a population collapse is still "ONE BILLION PEOPLE" .  In 2035 China will still have more people than the US, but "how many Chinese does it take to push the nuclear button?"  Answer is one.   A wounded badger can still tear you up.  Actually, a China now realizing their dire predicament is more dangerous than a China believing itself to be vibrant and having the luxury of being on a "500 year timeline".    They will be forced to speed up long term goals, that were a more peaceful "buying the world with cash, one acre, one factory at a time".  

Just my guess on the balloon is it`s a novelty, sort of like taping a "kick me" sign on Biden`s back.  The message to leaders around the world is that adults are not in charge in the US.

I wouldn`t "just shoot it down" over the country, because we don`t know exactly what`s in it or the intentions of the Chinese who sent it.  The fact it`s now over Kentucky or wherever, to shoot it down now would be embarrassing, that it wasn`t discovered and shot down over the Pacific.  Only face saving move now is it can be said "we are studying it, so far no real danger has been observed".

   The word is the Chinese are checking on the coca crop.

  It's an invasion, I tell you, the whole world is being invaded by Chinese weather balloons!

  If it has telemetry that still functions, I'm sure US military signals intelligence is getting valuable information like the altitude, temperature, etc.  And if it doesn't have functioning telemetry, the Chinese aren't getting any valuable secret information either.

  In the case of weather balloons, typically as they rise they expand until the pressure inside the balloon exceeds the bursting pressure of the balloon and then it falls back to earth.  My guess is, given the worldwide shortage of helium, the Chinese didn't put in enough such that it never could exceed the bursting limit and it just rode along on the jet stream.

  Meanwhile, the lunatics on Fox News, etc. go into an absolute meltdown.  The Chinese get concerned that McCarthy is going to a nuclear attack and say, " it's just a weather balloon, we're sorry."
