Antarctic sea ice most ever on record

Yet Barack Obama and John Kerry tell us that man made global warming is the greatest threat there is to man kind. President Obama is about to force the nation to sign on to the UN climate treaty costing hard working middle class Americans thousands of dollars every year in the form of increased energy cost. The indirect cost will reach into the billions all the while the planet gets colder and the ice just keeps growing. How much has the ocean levels dropped now that we have record ice in the Antarctic? Surely they have dropped if the melting of ice causes them to rise. What do the computer models say, dry oceans by 2100? Looks like the scientist have been caught lieing to us again.

Scientists have declared a new record has been set for the extent of Antarctic sea ice since records began.

Satellite imagery reveals an area of about 20 million square kilometres covered by sea ice around the Antarctic continent.

Jan Lieser from the Antarctic Climate and Ecosystems Cooperative Research Centre (CRC) said the discovery was made two days ago.

"This is an area covered by sea ice which we've never seen from space before," he said.

"Thirty-five years ago the first satellites went up which were reliably telling us what area, two dimensional area, of sea ice was covered and we've never seen that before, that much area.

"That is roughly double the size of the Antarctic continent and about three times the size of Australia."

When it comes to this stuff and the denier crowd, whatever the he!! might stick to the wall.  Just the convienient facts and no others, I guess.

HEE, HEE, HEE. Talk about throwing stuff against the wall. New York city was suppose to flood because of the melting sea ice. And now it is at RECORD levels. We were suppose to have one Katrina after another and now we have gone longer than ever record without a major hurricane hitting the US. And yet you STILL push the hoax. Man made global warming climate change and disruption just HAS to be true doesn't it Bruce. It just HAS to be true because if not it could threaten your progressive caliphate that has been established across this once great nation. SOOOOOOOO you have to throw out the OLD denier card.....AGAIN. What a joke.

20. What you failed to post was this phenomenon is part of global warming. Extremes of weather during global warming is quite normal. This is no different. If you want to continue with your meteorological ignorance, go for it. But the fact remains.

Go back to the 1980s and post the computer model that showed man made global warming was going to increase Antarctic sea ice. Increase to to never before seen levels.

The problem 20 is you believe something then try looking for anything that will back up your belief.

Sea ice is not as important around Antarctica as it is in the Arctic.

What matters is the total ice on Antarctica and that is shrinking which is part of the reason for increased sea ice since all that new melt water from the glaciers on land make the water less salty and also causes different layering and mixing.

Estimates of recent changes in Antarctic land ice (Figure 2, bottom panel) show an increasing contribution to sea level with time, although not as fast a rate or acceleration as Greenland. Between 1992 and 2011, the Antarctic Ice Sheets overall lost 1350 giga-tonnes (Gt) or 1,350,000,000,000 tonnes into the oceans, at an average rate of 70 Gt per year (Gt/yr). Because a reduction in mass of 360 Gt/year represents an annual global-average sea level rise of 1 mm, these estimates equate to an increase in global-average sea levels by 0.19 mm/yr.

There is variation between regions within Antarctica (Figure 2, top panel), with the West Antarctic Ice Sheet and the Antarctic Peninsula Ice Sheet losing ice mass, and with an increasing rate. The East Antarctic Ice Sheet is growing slightly over this period but not enough to offset the other losses. There are of course uncertainties in the estimation methods but independent data from multiple measurement techniques (explained here) all show the same thing, Antarctica is losing land ice as a whole, and these losses are accelerating quickly.

You owe it to yourself to learn the difference between the artic and antarctic.
