Crime was much worse, and actually inflation had not yet been fully disembodied from the economy.

Reagan had blown the deficit up some but it is true that GWB and Trump hadn’t yet sent it to the stratosphere.

Crime wasn`t worse, because in 1988 George Bush locked up the Willie Hortons  😀  

It`s the trajectory of crime, in San Francisco they gave up and allow shop lifting of $950 or less... these stores can`t eat those loses for long.  A lot of this crime has been "decriminalized" and that skews the data.   But it`s up to those paying attention.
