Re: Beautiful day in Albuquerque
For you dog lovers (and please no comments about eating them)
Here they are. The big one is my 5 and a half year old male who is also a rescue dog. I am keeping one of the females and the other female and male puppies will go on to CA tomorrow. Organization called Basenji Rescue and Transport facilitate the adoptions.

Re: Beautiful day in Albuquerque
Man, do I hate pets in the house. Now, for adults with no kids, I've got no problem. But nearly everyone with small children and even babies anymore think they also need a dog or two and/or a few cats in their house. I do not get it. These kids have a much higher chance of developing asthma and allergies, there is the risk of attack on babies, they're often bringing in dirt and feces from outside. I really have to wonder WTF these people are thinking....its at the very least selfish...at the most...child abuse.

Re: Beautiful day in Albuquerque
No, they are "African barkless dogs" They are sight hounds like a greyhound in that they are used in Africa to hunt small game by sight more than by scent. Very fast and quiet and odorless unless they roll around in something. They do make a noise that sounds like "barooooo" and will scream when really frightened. Our older male rarely makes any noise at all which is great as far as I am concerned and they only weigh from about 22# to 27#. NOT watch dogs though.

Re: Beautiful day in Albuquerque
You raise rescue dogs? How cool is that? Or do you mean you 'rescued' the dog. Either way, nice looking pooch.
The only dogs I ever raised were the 'friendly type', and you had to scratch your head a bit, to try and guess what 'breeds' they were.
Our girls' current pup (got it just a week ago from my sister) has some Aus. Shepherd, some Border Collie, some Lab, some Great Dane, possibly some Yellow Lab, and the mother has markings a bit like a police dog cross.

Re: Beautiful day in Albuquerque
The large dog (adult) is a rescue dog meaning that he was rescued after being lost and the owner couldn't be found. He was turned over to Basenji Rescue and Transport where I adopted him 4 years ago. The pups are the result of an accidental breeding and either they aren't show quality or whatever, instead of selling them on the market, and have more pet quality dogs being bred and raising more pet quality puppies, the owner/breeder gave them to BRAT to be adopted. They provide medical exam, shots, deworming and neutering/spaying and charge an adoption fee depending the age (younger equals higher fee) and inspect the new home and interview the prospective adopter. I go one of the females and agreed to help transport all three to Arizona. They originated in MO, went to Tulsa, then Dallas, to a dog show where a lady agreed to take them to Albuquerque to another big dog show and I picked them up there and the new owner of the other two pups is coming in from CA this afternoon to take them home. That is way more than you wanted to ever know about rescue dogs but...

Well, it was nice of you to adopt the dog, as most shelters put them to sleep, if they are not adopted within a certain time frame.
Even the Humane Society, with all their pictures of 'rescued' animals, winds up taking many of them to a vet to be put down, because they do not wish to house them for life, if no one adopts them within a certain time frame.

Re: Beautiful day in Albuquerque
All of the breed specific rescue agencies put the dogs in foster care until they are adopted. Go here and take a look. I think you will be impressed.
