Thinking about Stalin , Hilter, Mao, Pol Pot, Lenin and all the people they have slaughtered. However they didn't do it singlehandedly. How do so many get taken in by these guys that they are willing to kill innocents for them. What goes on in a persons pyche to allow themselves to be used as a tool by these types. Is it the lust for power also ?? Is it fear?? Could this happen in this country??. Would our military fire on its own brothers friends family neighbors if given the orders or would common sense prevail??

Three things cause sane people to do insane acts of atrocities:

religion, training, and politics

Relying on one's character and core beliefs of right and wrong are the only correct way to act when something just doesn't feel right. Now if you are a psycopath, then forget relying on core beliefs.

They divide the people up, just like we see now....I`m so disgusted that I don`t see alot of difference between being under Obama`s thumb or Putin`s thumb.  Hitlers nazis vilified the Jews, the communists vilified the Czars in Russia.  And the thing is things probably do get better on the short term when their still living off the stolen goodies.

Right now in this country there`s half or 47% or whatever that are so greedy and selfish that they will go along with anything the Democrats want.....it really is becoming clearer and clearer each day how "Hitler and Stalin did it".

Cat. It would easier to slip a sunrise past a rooster than fool me where your hypothetical question is going. The question is would all you fundamental right wing wanna be Rambos be prepared to storm the WH to "take the country back". That is firing on your own!!!! And a democratically elected government to boot.

As for the use of common sense on this topic, don't even think about it. Amongst the gun nuts it is not that common. In fact those who do have it, it is not a virtue. It is more a punishment for having to tolerate on here those who do not have it.

You read me wrong. Wasn't going anywhere else with the question. Exactly as I stated. Just wondering what triggers a person to stand behind some of these despots in history. Ive got family in the military and family in politics so you're right they are my own, as I would seek to do them no harm.

Putin would be a good leader if he was in a system with proper checks and balances on his power. He does believe in representative democracy enough to get a vote from his parliment to authorize force, though, even if it just a symbolic vote or rubber stamp.

Putin is more in alignment with traditional Christian values than what we have going on in America right now, and probably would carry about the same number of states in a matchup with the muslim that the mormon did.

Kind of a sad commentary.
