Re: Big ag at work

That’s *****’ insane.

The details escape me but some time back there was a ruling that treated seed could be disposed of in coal power plants.

I thought at the time that the evidence was strong that temperatures were high enough to break down the chemicals into inert substances.

Of course that would have been just a few fungicides- they weren’t drenched in neonic insecticides.

Big Ag got somebody to solve an expensive problem for them.

Put me down as strongly opposed to neonic seed treatments in general. Hopefully this monumental screwup- fueled by greed- will shine a light on the larger practice.

Communism!!!!! Family farms will all go broke and you’ll starve!!!!

Just like the $5 t-shirt at Wally World not being the bargain it first appears when taking account the trade imbalance and under-employed Americans.  The pollution from pesticides and such have to be some how plugged into the nation`s "cheap food policy".

Progs are nimby people.  They want regulations here, and cheap crap from unregulated countries in their walmart.

Check out sometime how the cobalt in the ev packs in their cars is mined.

Re: Like cobalt isn't a major ....

Like cobalt isn't used in a wide variety of applications unrelated to batteries, high-speed steels, plate glass, even trace mineral fertilizer.  Sure it's used in batteries but that not the only use by far.

Quote: "Cobalt (Co) is a metal used in numerous diverse commercial, industrial, and military applications, many of which are strategic and critical.  On a global basis, the leading use of cobalt is in rechargeable battery electrodes.  Superalloys, which are used to make parts for gas turbine engines, are another major use for cobalt.  Cobalt is also used to make airbags in automobiles; catalysts for the petroleum and chemical industries; cemented carbides (also called hardmetals) and diamond tools; corrosion- and wear-resistant alloys; drying agents for paints, varnishes, and inks; dyes and pigments; ground coats for porcelain enamels; high-speed steels; magnetic recording media; magnets; and steel-belted radial tires."

So don't get your panties all in a twist about rechargeable batteries, it's not like you don't like your battery-powered electric drill.

He wasn't talking about rechargeable batteries. He was talking about the mining process.
