Bruce et al

The constant complaint and critique of Trump and conservatives as well as European/American cultures brings about one question.

As much as you hate all these things, what would you replace it with in the real world that would make life better for not only the people in the USA but the world?

Communism and socialism has been tried multiple times and it never works for a number of reasons, primarily because they are against human nature.   Lazy people won't work and hard working people revolt causing the powers to kill off the hard working and energetic.

What are you proposing to make life better for everybody?  What system would ever produce as much wealth and freedom as the majority of people in the USA have enjoyed over the last 2 centuries?  Are the some that haven't?  Certainly, but looking at China, Russia, Venezuela, Cuba etc. is there really any comparison?  Are those that fail to partake of the opportunities not causing their own grief?  Opportunities abound but some are oppressed by their politics of victimness.  When they shun the system that provides opportunity and pretend that they have a cultural devotion that they must maintain, it's their loss.

Regarding cultural heritage, my ancestors lived in mud, straw and stick huts.  They kept livestock in the house and were subservient to a lord.  I have not desire to maintain that "cultural" heritage.

They`ll probably call you a "snowflake" and not answer (I hope I`m wrong and they do give you a detailed answer).  People that are Liberal think they`ve gotten the short end of the stick somewhere down the line (When brains were handed out, they thought "train" got on it and left town Smiley Very Happy ).

But seriously, they identify with the so-called down trodden like illegals, because they had personal disappointments.  In their case, they didn`t marry the Prom Queen, they weren`t born into a BTO family, they didn`t have the Trans-Am, they didn`t go to Notre Dame.  So, they hate those that did....well so do I, but my Wife is prettier than the Prom Queen and a Trans Am didn`t have stock racks to haul 9 head of butchers to the buying station  Smiley Very Happy

There`s guilt, feelings of inadequacy, jealousy all sorts of emotions that make Liberals the way they are.  But Trump voters really drive Liberals up a wall, because they are confident and happy, it seems a good attitude makes life go easier.

There`s the "marshmallow test" where kids are tested if they can delay eating a marshmallow for a period of time if they can have 2 later.  I don`t like marshmallows so it`d be easy for me.  Reeses  Peanut Butter Cups and I make no guarantees  Smiley Very Happy

Then there`s "crabs in a bucket" where crabs will not allow other crabs to crawl out of a bucket and pull those that try back.  Which is exactly about a "progressive income tax" of tax the rich to pay for my retirement, healthcare and college.   All those in the audience clapping for the Democrats at the debate, imagine them as all crabs in a bucket.

Re: Bruce et al

By measures of human well being and contentment, European social democracies* are unquestionably the best places to live in the world. We do pretty well, or at least about 80% of us.

They do have a major problem though- demographics. Which we fortunately do not.

Although we could certainly do well to return to the previous level of legal immigration because out workforce is aging.

*Maggie's sad UK excepted.

Re: Bruce et al

Lets not get all rosy eyed about how great European and American cultures are without acknowledging the bad parts,

Things like fascism and dictatorial rule, genocide of other cultures or religions that are different from the rulers of the day.

It is fine to look at what is good but we should not forget what was wrong and is wrong.

Without God (capital G) what is "wrong" and what is "right"?  Everything else occurs in nature and must be "tolerable" and "acceptable", right?

Western culture can have "socialism"...however what is the difference between a "free spending welfare state" and "socialism"?    See, I would argue that those "happy Europeans" aren`t so much socialist as they are free spending welfare state.  And you can have a free spending welfare state...so long as you have a small homogeneous population that oh yeah has North Sea oil reserves for a source of funding.  Yeah i`d love to live in Norway and be taken care of craddle to grave, get a couple months off paid vacation and such.  However that wouldn`t work in the US.

The problem is, if you have a free spending welfare state and are stupid enough to allow immigration, it`s strictly a sundown system.

Re: Bruce et al

BA your 'G'od is one reason that the track record of 'western civilization' is not so good.

Other believers forced their religion on many and completely disrupted families, communities and cultures.

It was believers in you 'G'od that carried out mass murder against the people who originally lived in the America's and yes it was in the name of your 'G'od.

It was believers in your 'G'od that forced people into slavery by kidnapping them and bringing them to a foreign country where their descendants are still being punished because of the colour of their skin even though they are supposed to be free.

Western 'civilization' has lots of bad things in it and no one should think it is the only or best way for human society to live.

No, it was sinful mankind that squandered their freewill. ...in some cases, other cases there was a need of a killin`

Re: Bruce et al

Mass murders? Settlers were attacked and they defended themselves. They didn't care out mass murders because of God. Those were carried out by 19th and 20th century communist atheist dictators. They killed by the millions. By the 100s of millions.
