Social security is based on how much FICA you pay in. If the "rich" pay more in FICA they will recieve more in social security. Unless you want the government to take the money from the rich and give it to some one else.

But is that not what you have, a progressive tax system?

What is the option? tax those who do not have it and give it to the rich?

Think that is the way it was in the past and people did not like being serfs.

Canuck, the "rich" are paying FICA tax. They will recieve no more than any poor who payed in the same amount. If you wish to confiscate their wealth do not mask it behind FICA. As far as taxes buying you a civilization, look at Cuba.

NO, simply freeze taxes where they are and make the Bush tax cuts policy, then get a sharp butcher knife and go to work on the government employees. Start with pulling back the military, then gov't worker pay cuts, then lay offs, then department eliminations, until the people scream "we want more government". Right now they are screaming "Do not raise taxes"

The Idea that Bush didn't stimulate the economy with his tax cuts is pure Bull hockey. Remember, we were fighting a full scale war "off budget" of course, and that sucked a lot of money out of government, and things really have been slowing down for quite a while anyway without the Bush oil war to bleed us down. Now we are trying to fight 2 wars "off budget", bail out wall street, bail out GM, bail out black farmers, who knows what all else. That is the problem, too much gov spending, but no politician will admit it. Government MUST BE DOWNSIZED

Why are you complaining? You aren't the one paying taxes and you are alright with that. Perpetual tax avoidance cannot produce a robust federal budget.

You don't like any kind of government because you don't want tp pay for it.  Not only that but you want to lower taxes in order to force your opponents into submission. It's the people through their elected representatives that have decided which projects we embrace. The big problem is how do we pay for it. It is not helpful if people carry tax avoidance as a badge of honor.

You are wrong. Those that contribute more receive a higher benefit. However the poor often receive more than their contributions would call for. It is minimum benefit package for those with a history of low earnings.

So I did a little google research and what I read would say FICA is not really a tax but rather an insurance.

In Canada we have a similar scheme to cover a pension ( does not cover health care/medicare since that is already covered for everyone). As with yours our Canada Pension pays according to what you paid in from employment.

As noted by another poster your FICA payments are limited to a maximum level of income as is our Canada Pension.

So I think you are talking about an enhanced pension plan not income tax when you say FICA.

First I think you have to freeze spending and pay down some debt before you can cut taxes but what I have to ask is what is your point about 'bailing out black farmers'?

Don't all farmers in the US get the government dole?
