CBS's Bob Schieffer - Time for Reid to put up or shut up.

Bob Schieffer, host of CBS"s "Face The Nation" was talking with his two guests (one Dem and one Repub) about various claims and accusations being leveled by various politician against candidates from the opposing party.  Schieffer mentioned how Harry Reid has for weeks now been going around claiming he knows for certain that Romney paid no taxes.   Yet when asked for his proof Reid won't say.  Schieffer said that CBS nor any reputable new service would dare make such a claim as Reid without disclosing their witness or evidence.  

Finally Schieffer turned to his Dem guest, **bleep** Durbin and asked him if it wasn't time for Reid to put up or shut up?

I thought, great job Schieffer.  Now we just need to get a few more TV journalists with the gonads to be willing to ask more politicians from both parties if it isn't about time to put up or shut up.

Glad to see someone in the press call out these guys when they make such claims.

Dagwood, remember four years ago how the press treated anything and everything from the Obama camp with kid gloves? Nothing was ever questioned. It must have been very difficult first for the Hillary Clinton camp, and then later for the McCain ticket to deal with this.

It is refreshing to see the press challenging things now, but it makes me think that either a fix is already in this time, and Obama is on the way out, or that the press simply smells "blood in the water" on the sinking Obama prospects and is circling in.

A local paper, that is in the college town of Mankato MN, normally is almost 90% liberal slanted, and I notice that lately they have been very dismissive and critical of Biden and Obama....even calling them out for 4 yrs of failing to lead. None of this bodes well for Obama in november.

Bob Scheiffer of all people should know that sources must be protected if either He or Reid cannot get a release from their source.

However, it is quite easy for Romney to prove his case if he can. However, I do think he is hiding stuff from the general public some of which might prove him guilty of tax evasion. But then Mitt can prove me wrong.

I find it interesting that all the chirping from the birthers about a birth certificate that was produce and yet they are willing to give Romney a free ride on tax returns he hasn't produced.

The birthers are good example of where the Repubs need to put up or shut up.

Romney has followed the rules or laws by releasing last years tax return.  He in not required to release any more.  I do agree with you that by not releasing more years it can give the appearance of guilt or wrong doing.

What do you mean by tax evasion? Taking and using various legal maneuvers to reduce your tax bill or doing things that are illegal to reduce your taxes?

I suspect illegal. Hiding income to escape the IRS.  If it was just legal tax avoidance he would have be released them before now. He has already felt the embarrassment of tax avoidance, if it is possible for a multimillionaire to be embarassed by such things. I suspect he is beyond that notion because like many he beleives that tax avoidance is something to be proud of. Legal tax avoidance is not tax evasion although paying 13% tax rate is taking the avoidance to the extreme. He must not think the government needs funding.

Rumor and it is a rumor that Romney has over $100 million in his IRA.

Just my opinion and I'm sticking to it.

And what difference does it make. If your wife and american citizen gave birth to a child in Kenya would that mean you do not have american citizenship?

Nittwit  Romney's father George was born in mexico. John McCain was born in Panama. Both were republican candidates for the presidency. Plus michelle bachman and sarah palin both escaped from an asylum, lord only knows where.

Actually John McCain was born on US soil. The Air Force base he was born on is considered sovereign US ground.

Kraft-t.  That is the same argument the birthers used with Obama's birth certificate.  Their claim was, if he had a legitimate one, he would have produced it immediately, and since he didn't, he must be hiding something.  IMO, the illegal tax evasion thing has about as much legitimacy, as the faked birth certificate does.
