Overall risk of infection -- over 10%

Of course, age, health, location, employment, travel and social factors impact your actual risk, as does whether or not you (and/or others near you) have been vaccinated and/or have natural immunity.  CDC data includes only reported cases, so does not include unreported cases (minor infections and/or no symptoms, and thus were never tested).  Therefore, so far, the actual risk of infection has likely been significantly higher than 10%, thus the actual risk of hospitalization and/or death has likely been significantly lower than the statistics would imply.  Couple that last statement with the fact that a substantial percentage of the highest risk groups have been vaccinated at this point, and the hospitalization and death risk percentages moving forward should be substantially lower, generally speaking.

Sam, just what is my risk of being killed by a bus dropped from outer space?  I have none of the listed co-morbidities other than my age and I'm not even in the highest risk age.  Furthermore, I'm fully vaccinated and live a lifestyle that permits me to avoid, for the most part, casual exposure to other people and I use a mask and practice social distance when I think it's necessary.

  I won't say I'm scared *****less, rather I'd say I'm disgusted because some people (medical science & industry) went to great lengths, & the government invested substantial resources to develop an effective prevention but now some significant percentage of the population has decided that they know more about disease prevention & medicine than all the doctors & scientists in the world combined and refuse to be vaccinated.

  And worse yet, some politicians are exploiting this irrational vaccine hostility to convince people that the people who are trying desperately to help them are somehow denying them their "freedom".

  Yes, I think disgusted is the word that best describes my feelings.

But Sam, let me ask you, Do you even admit that substantial numbers of people are dying from Covid-19?  How many people, what percentage of the population would have to die from Covid before you would even consider it enough to be concerned about?  Would you consider 1%, 5%, or 20% the magic number, 3 million, 10 million, or 40 million dead enough to justify a response?

  I ask because I got the strong impression some months ago that in your opinion,  taking any measures to reduce the numbers of infected individuals, be it wearing masks, social distance, and especially developing a vaccine was/is totally unnecessary.

  And in all seriousness Sam, if you manage to convince even one individual not to get vaccinated and that individual subsequently dies of Covid, just how are you going to justify your actions?
