Canuck and credibility
I don't post much and visit rarely. But this comment by Canuck shows a complete lack of credibility when he makes a statement that would be so easy to verify before posting.
Canuck wrote "Over and over you come down against homosexuality and abortions while neither of those subjects are even mentioned by your god Jesus."
Romans is one of the letters written by Paul
Read Romans 1:24 to 32, especially versus 26 and 27
English Standard Version (ESV)
26 For this reason God gave them up to dishonorable passions. For their women exchanged natural relations for those that are contrary to nature; 27 and the men likewise gave up natural relations with women and were consumed with passion for one another, men committing shameless acts with men and receiving in themselves the due penalty for their error.

Re: Canuck and credibility
Verses leading up to this are interesting. Is it that god encouraged homosexual acts as punishment for not praising him? If that is the case, could it be said that god created homosexuals?
18 The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of people, who suppress the truth by their wickedness, 19 since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. 20 For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.
21 For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened. 22 Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools 23 and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images made to look like a mortal human being and birds and animals and reptiles.

Re: Canuck and credibility
Paul, for sure. As a Jewish scholar he hewed to that strong traditional Hebrew view. Lots in Paul's letters and in the old testament.
But the Gospels record no comment on the matter by Jesus.
He did speak strongly against divorce but there are lots of remarried divorced people in the pews in most churches- in the Catholic Church you just have to pay enough indulgences and then they call it an annulment.

Re: Canuck and credibility
It boils down to there is no sin in Heaven. So someone that is a murderer or a rapist or like the repentant thieves dying on crosses next to Jesus, who Jesus said "Tonight you`ll be in paradise!". You can add drunkards and homosexuals in that, if they repent, they can be saved, but you can`t just say "God I`m sorry" and think you`ll carry a 12 pack of beer or homosexual stuff into Heaven with you. No that`ll all have to be thrown into the lake of fire and whether some of us choose to follow it there is up to us.

Re: Canuck and credibility
Divorce isn`t the "unpardonable sin", actually God is divorced.

Re: Canuck and credibility
Fortunately this country doesn't rule according to what you think might be some obscure mention in an old useless book that has absolutely nothing to do with rights or law.
No Christian Sharia !!

Re: Canuck and credibility
What I said regarding scripture is true.
My point is that we've seen fit to offer the right of congregation to those who are divorced and remarried even though it strongly contradicts a direct statement by Christ.
Clearly a more direct threat to the "institution of marriage" than is gay inclusion although I generally agree with the evolution of what we do- even though I've known more than a few real rounders who've sat happily in the pews with their Nth wife or husband. I'll let God sort that out.
In my relatively small circle I also know or know of more than a few divorced people where it came about because their spouse discovered their true orientation and left for a same sex partner. I don't know how that process of discovery came about in any of those cases but think that some human hurt would have been avoided if they'd been more free to go toward their orientation to begin with.
That's all real world stuff.
BTW, I won't try to place an explanation on this but among religious groups Evangelicals have the highest divorce rate and mainstream Protestants, Mormons and Catholics are also relatively high.
Lowest are Jews and the self described non-religious.

Re: Canuck and credibility
It goes to, a church should be a hospital for sinners, rather than a "warehouse for saints". This is why Jesus died for us, He became our sacrificial lamb, a man without sin died to save us sinners and all we have to do is repent, because I guarantee that none of us are without sin.
A person should try to marry the right spouse the first time and be sensible enough to work out conflicts and spend the rest of their lives together. But while one of the partners may bend over backwards, that doesn`t ensure that the other will meet them halfway, so to eliminate a possible homicide, a divorce becomes the "lesser evil". After 26 years, I have married the right one the first time, but I certainly don`t judge those who`ve had trouble in that area...there but the grace of God.
