Re: Everyone has free speech

BA,

Have you ever considered that had this current situation been the law in Bill Clinton's day, you would know nothing about asian campaign donations? Gess what, we certainly know nothing today because none of it has to be disclosed and it is limitless.

Our current campaign laws are the worst thing to happen in politics, ever and it will continue to destroy our system and divide us until it is repealed.

He is too busy flaunting his heterosexuality and ramming it down everyone's throat.

I mean, I know he chose that  lifestyle, but still......

Re: Everyone has free speech

There is an interesting reference to some massive piles of squandered donations in this piece by a highly influential right winger, who if taken literally, seems to be conceding to Trump:

Re: Everyone has free speech

Hey Knapper, I`m not persauded by ads and I think fewer and fewer are today.  We`ve all found our "camp" and are every leery of anything opposed to the camp we`re in that is said...we tune it out, this is why negative ads have a positive effect on Donald Trump.  Maybe someone could tell me something bad about Trump that would be true, but I`m in his camp and like 95% of what he says, so I will brush off any negative statements that i hear.  To put Trump in perspective, he is our "Barak Obama", you know how in 2008 we tried to tell those of you drunk supporters that "Obama is a socialist" and no one cared?

I am not threatened by ads, my concern is we a cadidate gets elected then the outright bribery begins.

But we each have our camps and the slice of pie that the parties have to fight over is very small, probably getting down to trying to create "fear" of the otherside to get previous "non-voters" to vote against the other guy, that`s how thin the slice of pie has become. And these Super Pac ads are focused to such a narrow band of voters that I`m sure each vote gained in in the hundreds of dollars.  Hillary and Bernie could run ads from now til doomsday and I wouldn`t vote for them...just to be very honest here.

Our Founding Fathers warned about a "2party system" and perhaps we should "outlaw political parties".  You might have 10 different people for each office on the ballot running the entire gambit of beliefs on the issues.  the might "get the money out of politics" to a degree.

My Son was interested in "2nd choice voting" where you vote your first choice, perhaps 3rd party your conscience.  then if that person loses, yor "second choice kicks in" so as your first vote wouldn`t be 'wasted".  I think that has merit and should really be looked at.

Re: Everyone has free speech

I believe they call it Ranked Choice Voting.  I believe the city of Minneapolis uses it in municipal elections.

Throw in a much shorter campaign season as in most other democracies and public financing of campaigns and we might get better leaders that a better % of the public would feel comfortable with and support.

As it is now, the overall system is geared and occasionally tweeted (Supreme Court-Citizens United) to keep extremely well to do OWM in charge of running things.

free speech

I'm not worried about ads either. They can put all of them up they want for all I care. What worries me is influence on our politicians. Our candidates are bought and paid for by, well, we don't know who or from where. That's what bothers me and it should bother you as well.

Trump may be immune at this point because of his wealth, but if he is elected, he certainly will not rock the boat that gives big money to Republican Congressmen or his party and I doubt he will look the other way when it's payback time on some legislation or funding that will effect special interests that donated big money. Birds don't poop in their own nest.

Is Hillary Clinton being financed by foreign governments through her foundation made legal by citizens united?

Re: free speech

Could be so. That's why we need to change the law. We do not need foriegn or domestic interests buying our politicians - either side. Clear enough?

Yep, that's what I thought.  You do approve of it.  The most money wins!  More money more free speech!  No rules!  No regulation!  That is the main problem with the right (and don't claim to a libbertarian or whatever). You are the picture in the dictionary beside rightwinger!

Re: Everyone has free speech

BS!!!  90% of everything you guys spout on here comes from ads either for or against and what you see on TV!  Obama a socialist??  You wouldn't know a socialist if one bit you on the butt!  You think the greater good for as many people as possible is evil.  Well, that attitude is evil!  You are an absolute disaster when it comes to character assessment!  Trump is mentally deranged suffering from NPD!!!!
