Communication Skills
Sounding more like Woodrow WIlson than Ronald Reagan, our POTUS delivered the following statement as to why broad proposals to balance the US budget were not forthcoming:
"This is not a matter of, `you go first, I go first,' " he said. "It's a matter of everybody having a serious conversation about where we want to go and then ultimately getting in that boat at the same time so it doesn't tip over."
House Republicans, meanwhile were eager to launch a weeklong debate on their own package of deep cuts in domestic spending for the current fiscal year.
Honestly, cannot the man come up with a better statement to try to get the country on board? Could you imagine Bill Clinton, Ronald Reagan, Richard Nixon, or any other US President outside of maybe Wilson and Carter being so bland in communicating?

Re: Communication Skills
The last thing he is going to do over the next few months is to get himself painted into any idealogical corners. He's going to make offer after offer to the House Republicans and challenge them to respond in-kind, much less to actually act on them.
It appears that he is getting more savvy advice since the biggest rat of them all, Rahm, left the ship. But regardless of that, I don't hold much hope for the situation in general. We are crippled by years now of chronic make believe.
It's like I just heard David Stockman say on TV...we just were given notice last week that we no longer are the policeman of the world. That's a hell of a comedown. We need to get humpin' on some sort of a local fix.

Cut spending to where we don't need to raise the debt ceiling.

Re: Communication Skills
that is the bold move that is necessary.
if congress would do it, the dollar would rally, corn would drop $2, and midwestern land would drop $2000 per acre almost overnight.

Are you kidding? George was by far the worst ever.

Re: Communication Skills
I seriously have my doubts that either side of the aisle will tackle what really needs to be tackled until we're pushed so deep into the corner that it's sink or swim. The can has been kicked down the road for so long that I'm not sure anyone really knows any differently that to just keep kicking it. From hearing budgets from each side, I don't get the feeling that either side has any sort of fix. If China has any kind of hiccup in their economy, they'll more than likely be a lot less apt to continue financing our debt. It won't take long for us to be in the same kind of shape as Greece and company.
