Constructive Criticism of Obama

Right now, the sitting president of the most powerful country in the world is caught in a vise, albeit one of his own making. The far right has always hated him, possibly out of some racism, probably for his non-mainstream views on everything from the value of free enterprise to his conflicting views on religion. The left wing nuts felt that any actions  short of creating a full blown soviet state was going to be inadequate, and even if he has been the most socialistic , statist president since FDR, he is still a failure in their eyes. For these two groups, he will never be successful.

The battle for respectability, and for the ability to remain functional, is in the middle of these extremes, and it is with these people that Obama has lost his grip. I agree with the pundits that have proclaimed that this is a guy that "just does not get it". I am not sure that he can salvage his presidency at this point, and most of that comes from who he is, and how little prepared he was to become president.

I remember as young lad, how Nixon could make a speech, and relax most of America. This was the pre-Watergate Nixon, the confident one, the guy that was not drinking himself to sleep each night. Whether you loved him or hated him, you felt this was a man that was capable, a patriot...a guy playing America's hand at a worldwide poker game. I don't think the middle group in America feels that way about Obama, and I really have reservations if they ever will. I fear he will be the longest serving lame duck in American history...a man with no chance of a political future, serving out a lengthy sentence in the white house, and this scares me.

To salvage what he can, Obama must reach out across the aisle, and launch some bi-partisan government. To his credit, he has managed to put a muzzle on Rahm Emmanuel, and even motor mouth Joe Biden must have a had a come to Jesus meeting since you don't hear him praddlling on with his imbecilic dialogue lately. Or I am lucky enough to miss it. So far, though, Obama seems to be oblivious that he has lost his critical mass of popular support. The latest appointment, of a new czar not elected or accountable echoes this. I guess the November elections will have to be the wakeup call that the president needs, anything short of a total landslide will leave hope in his mind for his socialistic agenda, and that will be a dangerous thing for America.

Hopefully, Obama is smarter than his critics think and can re-invent himself, like Clinton did repeatedly. When the republicans and the Contract for America swept the house, CLinton went along with virtually all of the main points, and actually seemed to do so with enthusiasm, attacking entrenched welfare with a zeal that even Reagan could not have exceeded.

Anyone else have some constructive criticism of this guy?

While I accept your point of constructive criticism, it is nearly impossible for most on here to have anything but hatred for Obama, no matter what he does.  Basically these forums are hate sites for frustrations to boil over.  Your touch about racism is basically correct but everyone squeels when it is mentioned but that is the elephant in the room.  All but a few on here are republicans and the remaining dems get intimidated by the repub bullies like Craig. These forums are a magnet for them.

The latest news I heard on the telev is Michelle hates the job of being the First Wife, and she never asked for it. How would like to come home every night to hear her beetch about what she had to do today? Enough to make any man cranky.

Re: Constructive Criticism of Obama

Like many lawyers, you want to start the discussion with stipulations that Obama is disliked and that he is to blame for it, without mentioning the full bore campaign to discredit him.  Total and complete obstruction to anything he tries to do. A hate campaign without equal but it is still his fault.

Perhaps the problem is his trying to reach across the aisle wasting all that energy trying to win the support of those unwinnable. The right doesn't want compromise. They expect capitulation.

The left are the folks that elected him. Why should Obama ignore them in favor of the nonexistant support from the right?  Then you have to take a shot at Rahm and Joe Biden to complete your constructive criticism of Obama.

Non mainstream views are what? What you have been programmed to believe? The left wants a full blown Soviet state? Quite an assumption. I guess I'll hate myself.

I disagree.

He has tried to govern toward the center and has been undercut by propaganda that has the great unwashed responding to the emotional message that he is anti-business, muslim, "other".

Should have come out with a progressive agenda, all guns blazing.

A shoat stuck in a fence can only squeal so loud.

Re: Constructive Criticism of Obama

What kind of cigarettes were you smoking when you hallucionated that Obama and the Dems reached across the asile? Smiley Happy . For a man who won with only 52% of the vote against the worst possible candidate, Obama has acted like he had a mandate that never exsisted. For nearly 2 long years we have had put up with a President who`s full of himself. Forget reaching across the aisle to Repubs, Obama failed to reach across to the American people. Payback starts this November.

You don't remember the health care hearings? Visits to the white house. Hearings droning on month after month trying to win support from the republicans.  Chuck Grassley working so hard to change the direction of the legislation and then bragging about his killing it. They had no intent of passing anything. Merely obstruction and delay delay delay!

Yeah, I remember that humble George w bush when he won that first election by a landslide. I mean it wasn't even close, no Florida recount or anything like that. Just a humble guy that earned the support of dems just because he was humble.

Racism is the card played by those who can't explain themselves clearly or can't understand the reasons for this country's problems. He captured a majority of the white vote. He is now way behind on that. It kind of makes the guy look weak to fall back on your argument. I hope you keep making it though. It only makes most of us want to vote even more. Bring it.

Re: Constructive Criticism of Obama

You  really believe that???? Reached across the aisle????? That's rich. Why do they have to agree or get along anyway? Let them fight and the best idea will win. Why do we all have to want to get along??? It's political BS. Fights are good for us.

Re: Constructive Criticism of Obama

As the minority party the Republicans were shutout of writing the bill, much to the delight of You, Dale and Brian. The only reaching across the aisle was Dems saying "Vote for what we wrote or you`ll pay in November!!!". The Republican`s only recourse was to take it to the people in the form of townhall meetings. If you recall Grassley was a little bit for the bill and was nearly roasted at the stake by the solid 70% majority of the people who hate Obamacare. If Republicans "lied" about Obamacare, Obama could call a news conference at anytime to set it straight, or any of  the Dem majority for that matter. If Obamacare is so wonderfull, why aren`t Dems bragging about passing it? Why don`t Dems ask Obama to campaign for their reelections? Why is a small but significant portion of the Republican platform rooted in the repeal of Obamacare?
