Council starts meeting with muslim prayer

The Council announced Tuesday that it has invited local imams to perform Islamic invocations at the beginning of the Council meetings in September.

Though meetings don't regularly begin with any form of prayer, an email from the Common Council called it "an act of solidarity with our Muslim brothers and sisters."

The email even referenced the ongoing issue in New York. "One of the goals of the Council is to give a voice to the many diverse peoples of the City, which is especially important given the recent anti-Islam events throughout the country."

Council President rJo Winch called it an important move for the Council. "I feel it is very important that, as a Council, we project a culture of inclusiveness in the City of Hartford. Too often it is our differences that divide us. In my opinion, it is our combination of differences that makes us strong," Winch said.

You know, 45-55 years ago, when I was in high school and then later when I first went into the army, once a month we had assemblies and had people from the community come in and talk to us about all sorts of things.  Part of that included clergymen of ALL faiths--Baptists, Catholics, Hebrew, Methodists, etc from OUR community.  We didn't have any Muslims nor Buddists or Evangelicals.  In the army we did and they talked to us also.  Why, if our communities are made up of people from different backgrounds, cultures and religions not be included in our daily lives?  THAT is what makes a community.  No one is making you accept their faith or their culture.  Unlike millikin, who wants us to believe that Muslims are going to overrun the country in the next couple of years, I don't think they are anyworse than the Catholics or even LDS who have been trying VERY hard to increase their numbers worldwide for centuries.  EVERY religion in the world strives to increase their flocks.

But Brian, .... The LDS and the Catholics (or any other non-muslim religion) do not strap on suicide vests and go blow up large groups of people.  Their beliefs actually tell them that it is a positive career move to do so.

The quote said that the council meetings don't normally start with a prayer.  Why now include only Muslim prayers?  Just plain stupid how liberals accept any religion except Christianity.  I guess we should start killing our girls who may have an interest in boys or stoning them to death for any number of offenses including being raped.  Funny how some of your like minded brethren think that Christians beliefs are comparable to acts like those.

What would you do if you had a neighbor that you just couldn't get along with?  Just the sight of him drives you crazy.  Would you burn his house down?  Would you throw rocks at him or would you go out of your way to be nice to him?  Would you say "hello" to him every time you saw him?  Would you think of ways to show that you don't hate him and that maybe you could be friends or at least not be hateful towards each other every time you see each other?  Or would you try to antagonize him at every opportunity.  I know what I would do.  How about you?

I am always nice to people unless they screw me.  Then I'm not.  Why would a city council that doesn't open it's meeting with a prayer normally decide to start opening their meetings with a Muslim prayer?  Why choose Islam over Christianity in a country that supposedly has freedom of religion?  Liberals have prided themselves in having freedom from religion.  Doesn't make sense to me.  For the record, I am not opposed to the New York mosque.  They have the right to build it there.  It isn't a good idea though.  I think it's insensitive and also a safety issue.  The city of New York is going to ask the emergency responders who were most affected by 9/11, those in precincts closest to ground zero, to protect a mosque?!?  Seems like a recipe for disaster.  There are people out there who may take matters into their own hands, i.e., a fire, rock tossing, bombing unlike me who would just walk on by.  On second thought, I would walk on by a block away.  I don't want to be close to that thing.  It will have to be protected more than most buildings in New York.

It is because of the left's hatred of Christians. They look at the muslims as the enemy of my enemy is my friend. They fail to realize the muslims view them in the same way. The muslims will do to the left what they accuse Christians of wanting to do. The left will wake up when good old Barney Frank is stoned. Once they realize to true intent of the muslims the left will be merciless. They will nuc every man, woman, and child and never bat an eye. They are the true hateful bigots of the world. Just look at how they have increased the programs they soooooo condemned George W Bush for.
