Re: Disturbing news
I've said before here that I will gladly give up any subsidy money I get if the government gives up on all subsidies, including welfare to those who are capable of taking care of themselves. The farm program was started by FDR in times like we are having today, during the depression, as a short term solution to a problem. Here we are 75 years later. Seems like Obama read FDR's playbook for reviving a failing economy.

We've transfered a trillion dollars to welfare and we've got a lot more on welfare. You get what you pay for.

Re: Disturbing news
Hobby, you and I are in agreement about the heavy tax payer spending on farm programs however we differ on just where the money goes and who is behind it. I don't think you see many farmers lobbying Congress to keep the large amounts of tax payer money rolling in. I contend it is the large seed, grain and farm machinery corps that are behind most of the lobbying. The large grain merchants love the idea of cheap grain subsidized by tax payers as it helps them market their grain over seas and stay competitive with other countries grain. I also believe that most of the money quickly passes from the farmer to Pioneer and other seed companies for the $300 bags of seed, to John Deere and others for their $300,000 combines and to their land lords who know exactly what the farm payments will be to their tenants. Sad part is the farm program hurts small family farmers and rural communities in favor of large mega farmers putting less kids in the local schools and have less consumers spending their money locally.
