The question is another straw man to change the debate. We are a sovereign nation with borders and those borders must be enforced if we wish to remain a sovereign nation.

The big problem is that he DID offer compromises that the house repubs wanted and when he gave them up, they said NO!!  They wanted something else.  Your memory is very faulty on this.  He asked for 3 billion dollars to help take care of the illegals who have been guarranteed a hearing before being sent back by GWBush.  Part of that money was to go for added personnel on the border but the house repubs decided that they would only give him much less than a billion and said take it or leave it so the Senate left it!!
