Re: Do you dislike or hate Socialism ?

It would depend on what level it is practiced. Schools, libraries, museums, parks, hydroelectric projects, locks and dams, interstate highways, the military, scientific institutions, NOAA, NASA, Social Security, Medicare, Medicade, and many more are all Socialist projects I would not want to be without and the list goes on, but it can all certainly exist in a free and open democracy and Capitalist socio economic system and that my friend is something many can't wrap their tiny brains around.

If I get of the road will my taxes be reduced. Fuel taxes would go away for me sure, but more goes into roads than just fuel tax. If I don't go to the library will I still have to play taxes to support it?

You see the thing about socialism is its not voluntary.  You yell get off the road, then yell louder give us your money.

Presumably you've benefitted from the literary enlightenment of your neighbors, even if you've chosen not to partake.

Not nearly so much as they'd benefit from buying me a fiber connection.  And maybe a pool.

My property tax does collect money for the library, park district and school district but not fire and police which you benefit from if only being near if you need them.  You don't have to use any of the other 3 but you will pay for them.  If you want to call that socialism, go ahead.

Re: Do you dislike or hate Socialism ?

Where are all the rabid right nut jobs who have screamed about the evils of socialism? They are all at home counting the government cheques and enjoying all the luxuries which socialism has given and at the same time trying to hide their embarrassing hypocrisy.

Not one of them is prepared to argue with you NAJ because they know we are right.

I don't care they take socialism in their stride and to a certain extent demand it but I have to intervene with the truth when their political hypocrisy, like a scum, rises to the surface. They ought to be ashamed of their Christian selves.

Re: Do you dislike or hate Socialism ?

When you mention broadband, yes, that is in fact an extraordinarily disruptive technology in regards to libraries, local extension offices, schools. To name just a few of the institutions.

To use the overused Toffler Future Shock phraseology, technology moves exponentially, institutions arithmetically.

Get a laugh thinking about the still smoldering resentments here about the school consolidation movement of the 50s and 60s which had a decidedly Big Brother, cold War element to it (the science race), but nevertheless made some sense in the economics of the times.

But the old Township school model looks very competitive given current technology. But how to unbuild the schools or the pseudo-communities that have been built around their sports identity?

I say, back to Hickory High and the State Championships.

Although I have to add that when the much larger, consolidated heir to the Milan High legacy played an undistinguished Muncie Cental team on ESPN for the 50th anniversary of The Great Game, they lost 84-37.

Just to name a few things that fols would have to get used to.
