Re: My goodness BA
You got that scripture more or less right. He was very specific about adultry, right? I was wondering what he said specifically about homosexuality? You know he didn't hand with the "proper" society and was around a lot of people that are considered leaches on society, thiefs, whores, poor people, the "unclean" - the dregs of society in general f- or the time - He loved them all and cared, so he shuned no one. I am certain he would have been around some homosexuals in the crowd. He certainly knew about the Romans as well. So, what did Jesus have to say about homosexuals? Can you, or anyone, provide a passage that is attributed to Jesus pertaining to homosexuals? He would have told us what is important like his views on adultry, right?
( PS - I know the answer, but I am asking you).

Not sure if that was directed at me or not BUt I am not a 'believer'.
Have no evidence to think there is any god or even a 'Jesus' as far as that goes.
So I will let others who study this book and 'know' it to all be true answer your question about homosexuals.
I have no problem with them.

My comments pertained to homosexuality...however on a different subject and in response to you:
I don't agree with slavery and the bible makes no difference as to what I think. I am not a literalist. I have been accused of being a "cherry picker" by the "more devout" (in their opinion). So be it. I have a mind and reason that mysically mixes with beliefs and faith and it is more illogical than logical and certainly counter-scientific.
I think you need to search yourself for some understanding and toleration of those who have spiritual beliefs that you disagree with. I disagree with many and often on Christianity. I can't prove there is a God or that Jesus ever lived and that's that. That leaves you with either being tolerant or calling me stupid for believing in something that I can't prove any more than I can prove there is a tooth fairy. Your decision. Think of me as you will.

Re: My goodness BA
The way todays christians shun other people convinces me that I don't want to spend erternity with those folks. For certain I am a wretched being and don't deserve the grace of a divine being. But rest assured that i don't have a superioity complex and i don't hate anybody. These folks love to hate and do harm to those that injure them not. Gay guys destroying their marriages. Gays aren't doing anything to you and your spouse, but you go out of your way to shun THEM and make life more difficult for them.
I think some of you folks enjoy being an **bleep** and work hard at attaining that.
No Knapper! you are not the target!

Did Jesus judge while he was here on earth? No. Will He judge in the future? Absolutly! Will gays be condemned? I don't know. Is homosexuality sinful behavior? I believe it is just as is adultry and fronication and will not support someone in a decision I think will come between them and God. I would not rent a house to an unmarried heterosexual couple. If I do my sin is no less offensive to God than theirs. Nor will I judge them, that is for the Almighty.

Re: My goodness BA
No Canuck, it`s pretty plain http://biblehub.com/exodus/21-2.htm `..on the 7th year the slave is set free without owing anything..`
There was slavery long before God`s Judeo/Christian laws came along, long before Moses. This is the Jewish year of 5774, there was slaves way further back than that. The "first earth age inhabitants` ...the city that Cain fleed to after he murdered Abel (in Genesis) practiced slavery, 11,000 years ago there was slavery.
As I said the slavery in America was NOT Christian, it was STOPPED by Christians, they spilled their own blood to stop it. Today you don`t see Jews or Christians owning slaves, their faith grew them out of that secular affliction. You see Muslims still practicing slavery, they stole them Nigerian girls from CHRISTIANS and put them into Islamic slavery. So there you go.

That is good, it is the first step to admitting your god is developed in your mind not from rules in an ancient book.
I do understand how people are brainwashed and then just 'believe' with no thought about what others tell them is true about things that have no proof of existing.
I tolerate those who wish to believe, indeed have a partnership with a very devout person but that is no reason for me to not point out the hypocracies and errors in peoples 'beliefs'.
Religious people have no porblem trying to convert me to their 'beliefs', no problem with forcing their prayer meetings on me in public places but when I point out ridiculous parts of their 'belief' they get upset and claim I am somehow persecuting them.
I think if their 'beliefs' stood up to any kind of evidence or they could actually answer questions I pose they would not be bothered or think I am not tolerating them.
I do not call people stupid, misled maybe and not willing to look at and accept the truth but not stupid.
And you are correct any 'god' is in the same category as the tooth fairy.

Re: My goodness BA
Knapper can call himself a Christian and that is fine, however he may be more comfortable in some other religion http://www.godsaidmansaid.com/topic3.asp?Cat2=244&ItemID=1104
The antichrist will have a good gig going, tickling the ears of those hearing what they want to hear.

Now BA you are trying to muddy the water instead of admitting the truth about slavery in the bible.
As I have pointed out before if you look hard you can usually find something to back up your 'belief' but I am still waiting for a verse in the bible anywhere that says what we all know, that slavery is just plain wrong, that it is an affront to all that is human to own another human.
Your verse speaks only of Hebrew slaves, slaves from your own tribe, who got special treatment. You did not point out how even a Hebrew slave could be tricked into becomeing a permament slave.
You should look that up the next time you are studying your book looking for anything in there that condemns slavery for the evil that it is.
And although you would like to point out how some chrisitians called for the end to slavery finally after almost 2000 years of christians allowing it and churches backing up the practice.
that was not because of christianity but because people used their own mental processes to realize what the bible did not that slavery, owning another huamn, is bad and should never be allowed.
You say theri faith 'grew out of that affliction'
I ask why did your 'god' not outlaw that affliction in plain language when the book was put together?
Can you answer that?
