Down the road from BA

at the National Animal Disease Lab in Ames, they do gain of function research. As they do at high end microbiology research labs.

The good news is that it is in a very new, state of the art facility. Came about when the new Bush DHS was shoveling money out the door with a Caterpillar and needed to figure out what to give Iowa. But not altogether a bad thing.

Anyway, gain of function is just something labs do, even if when Rand Paul utters it in conspiratorial tones it sounds like critical race theory, or something.

Re: Down the road from BA

If anybody happened to be paying attention at the time, the DHS thingy was mostly just an example of GOP Keynesianism. They knew they needed to offset the delation of the Clinton/Greenspan bubble but couldn't do it with any of that socialist stuff. Except for Medicare Part D.

They were throwing money around like footballs at a warmup- if you wanted a grant and could write it with anything remotely related to homeland security, there was an assembly line somewhere in DC where some folks just sat there all day and stamped "approved" on them.

Re: Down the road from BA

Once Mitch Daniels got the Medicare Part D thing for his pharma buddies he headed back to the Hoosier state.
