Fencing is not only an Olympic sport; it is sponsored by more than 30 NCAA colleges and universities. However, that didn’t stop a North Dakota university from banning its fencing club from practicing on campus. The reason? Fencing violates the school’s “weapons policy.”

Fencing foils not only have no sharp points or blades; the tips are spring-loaded. Unfortunately, for the newly-formed club fencing team at North Dakota State University, fencing equipment counts as a weapon, and the club has been barred from practicing on campus.
Naturally, the club members and their coach are not thrilled about this decision:
“The current interpretation of the non-weapon policy in NDSU…understands our fencing equipment as weapons,” says the club’s coach Enrique Alvarez.
Needless to say, this is yet another example of the hypersensitivity over “weapons” being forced on America these days. What say you?
