Ford Cancels Mexico Plant, 700 M$ to Mich plant
Ford Motor announced Tuesday that it would cancel plans for a $1.6 billion Mexico plant and launch a Michigan expansion in a move that may be viewed as a capitulation to Donald Trump.
Ford CEO Mark Fields said the company would spend $700 million and add 700 jobs to "transform and expand" its Flat Rock, Mich. manufacturing plant, where it will make autonomous and electric vehicles.
The move marks a sharp reversal for Ford, which has defended its production in Mexico as Trump has assailed the company for shipping jobs there.

Absolutely, Trump is not forgetting about us. All it really takes is some in charge other than a substitute teacher that will crack down on this stuff. I see where Trump has fired the warning salvo to GM as well about bringing in the Mexican Chevy Cruze without tax consquences.

Re: Ford Cancels Mexico Plant, 700 M$ to Mich plant
Just been watching the Ford CEO talk about what is going on.
Lots of mumbo jumbo but no direct credit to Trump, but between the lines you could hear echos of the "Morning in America" claptrap I recall from the late 70s and the 1980 campaign, coming out of the top end then of the C of C, country club Indusrial complex crew.
Right before interest rates went to 18+%, half of our neighbors sold or were foreclosed out and good manufacturing and processing work drooped from the 20s down too 10, often overnight with close downs, re-naming of ownership and scrapping of unions. The stuff BA talks about but somehow manages to blame on ghost liberals who weren't in office, much less have any influence on anything. An element that laid in the weeds during this election, but has slowly but surely come out of the shadows, aka Koch America, since Trumps coattails got us a country club majority back in Congress, not like seen since 1990. And HA! Poor, poor hapless, used like rented mule TeaBaggers. All they'll get is to keep their guns and manger scenes, while being skinned like possums.
Scariest bit is that there isn't much room down. Heck of a paradox in play. The DOW and the investor and even the "401K crowd" ball needs to stay in the air in order for there to be the sort of perpetual motion consumption machine that is required for the lower end of employment to stay on the job, Wages heat up and that all gets very sticky. I'm all for it but then strengthen the safety net and pay for the cost of doing so. But most importantly, ANY effort to serve up supply side gruel will blow out one end or the other, totally undigested.

These are the good high paying union jobs. Not just a living wage but a family living wage where they pay a lot of social security and medicare taxes. Great news for working class middle America.

“Well, when we make decisions like this as a company, we look at — first we do what’s right for our business,” Fields answered. “This makes sense for our business, and we look at all factors, including what we view as a more positive U.S. business-manufacturing environment under President-elect Trump.”
“It’s literally a vote of confidence around some of the pro-growth policies he’s been outlining, and that’s why we’ve made the decision to invest here in the U.S. and in Michigan.”

Re: Ford Cancels Mexico Plant, 700 M$ to Mich plant
Millie; I have not heard anythingabout this except that ford has cancelled plans for a plant in Mexico and is going to improve a plant in the US so Millie before you jump up and down as though Trump is/was responsible for Fords changed plans lets think critically about the numbers you posted.
They cancelled a new plant in Mexico budgeted to cost $1.6 Billion which I would think they could build cheaper in Mexico than in the USA and they plan on spending $0.7 Billion (that is less than half) in the US where they will likely spend more to get the same building.
My thought process says Ford has decided they are not going to be able to sell enough to warrant a complete new plant that a little tweaking to an old plant will put out enough to fill the market.
Now we can all start guessing what their prediction is based on.
A downturn in economy so less consumer purchasing?
New technology which will change the demand for cars?
Competition that will out sell thier product?
I suggest they see something in the market that is not as rosy for Ford as previous predictions have been.
