Re: Further and further to the right
Don't you think the circumstances are different? Today we have a weak economy and tax revenues have dropped considerably. Plus we have higher demands on unemployment , food stamps and medicaid.,
The truth is you repubs are only concerned about budgetary ptroblems when the dems are in power. You think deficit and debt should draw the reins tightewr on the dems and you wouldn't even be talking about it if McCain and co had the reins.
The question is are you willing to get your checkbook out to avoid the debt going on to the kids and grandkids? Are you willing to fight against the BUSH/ Obama tax cuts? If Obama had a surplus, would you and the right vote for more tax cuts. Thats what you dod the last time and we are in many trillions of debt more now than then.

I'm an Independent Don but I'll reply to that since your convinced I'm a Repub. I complained a long time ago about Repub spending and Bush's lack of using his veto power to trim some of Congress's pork barrel spending under his watch.
Both parties have their problems spending more money then they should and on things that they shouldn't be spending money on.

Re: Further and further to the right
Obama is far left in his ideology don't kid yourself.
snip;
But back in the United States, the reality looks a lot different. Many political leaders in Britain fail to understand the degree to which the American people are deeply unhappy with their president’s poor handling of the economy. Nor have they grasped the epic scale of the defeat suffered by the president in the November mid-terms, and the emphatic rejection by a clear majority of Americans of the Big Government Obama agenda.
Just seven months ago, the United States was swept by a conservative revolution that fundamentally transformed the political landscape on Capitol Hill, and gravely weakened the ability of the president to pass legislation. This revolution is not in retreat but gaining ground, led by charismatic figures such as Paul Ryan, the Reaganite chairman of the House Budget Committee, entrusted with reining in out of control government spending. And as a Gallup poll showed, America is unquestionably a conservative country ideologically, but one that is ironically led by the most left-wing president in the nation’s history.

Re: Further and further to the right
Just so you know that I know that congress dem or republ;ican di not pass any spending bill that GW Bush didn't sign on to.
I guess my memory is fading because i can't remember you canpaigning for spending cuts during the Bush era. Obama didn't cause these huge deficits. The opath was set with the financial ceters in huge trouble and we had two choices. A complete shutdown or depresion or this lousy situation we have now.
What business needs more than anything else is customers. Not tax cuts not incentives, customers. But you can bet your sweet boppy that the right will be campaigning for more tax cuts for business. As if that we creat jobs.
When the economy expands( and it will) it will not be because of tax cuts.
BYW the repubs are attacking medicare and intend to remodel it. However they exclude any change for people 55 and older. Why exclude those already on medicare? Well it's because they divided us you and me. They thin they can wack away at you because you don't think there will be medicare for you anyway. AND they know well that the elderly would scream to high heaven. Divide and conquer, but I assure you that I want you to have mnedicare as well as me. In fact i would favor it for everybody young or old. We just have to pay for it like we should pay for everything we do.
The way people talk about taxes there surely aren't any wealthy people in this country. If our tax system is that onerous how do people build those large estates?

Just what do you think the president should have done differently with the economy?

Re: Further and further to the right
What do you suppose it would take to create a general revolt. And not necessarily just against the government.
One would like to think this would be enough:
