Said he’d be out in the coming weeks. WTH difference would it make? His appointed replacement will or would vote the same.

BTW, don't know how the D or R benches are there but I'm pretty certain that the days have passed where anyone like Pawlenty will have much of a chance at all.

Re the MN GOP
The local chapters is large portions of out State have been taken over by a hybrid of Teabaggers (temember them) and Christoradicals not that different from the Moore bloc in AL).
The way it works out is that the ultimate delegate body to the State Convention is very short on classic business Republicans. But a Convention only endorses and then there is a primary. Which serves as one great big laundry line.
Yours is a dead on assessment.
