Great read

Lengthy, probably for the evening. This story has everything- think tanks, Hayek, pirate radio, murder, factory farming.

BTW, if you are looking for a DVD on Netflix I'd somewhat recommend Pirate Radio- not great but pretty entertaining.

Re: Great read

Just bumping this up nox so others might read it.
I always was suspicious of at least some think tanks, they often seem to have a mission rather than original thought.
I read part of it the other night.

Re: Great read

Everyone ought to read Keynes' General Theory even if with the intention of refuting his theory. Some brilliant insights contained within.

My favorite quote remains:

“Practical men, who believe themselves to be quite exempt from any intellectual influence, are usually the slaves of some defunct economist. Madmen in authority, who hear voices in the air, are distilling their frenzy from some academic scribbler of a few years back.”

Re: Great read

I don't think its entirely accurate.  There were foundations (that worked to develop public policy, ie think tank) started by Rockefeller, Carnegie, and  other robber barons back in the Victorian period.
