Guess I’d take the J and J vax
at only 70% effective, if that’s what there is.
Ticket now may be the tweaked forms later on, anyway.

From an epidemiological point of view they’d have been happy to get that in the initial vaccines.
But it makes it more imperative to get broad coverage- that will still force R to way below 1.

70% effective to the variants or 70% overall?
70% effective only reduces your individual chance of getting the disease by 2/3s. On a population basis, it's important but it leaves the individual with significant risk. I'll still wear a mask, keep my distance and not circulate until community spread declines,

against the native strain.
But it gets better. Even if there were more cases, no deaths 28 days after the single shot and no serious illness 49 days after.
So really very good.
You'd probably still want to mask in public and be aware of distancing so as not to spread it but they're generally saying that should be the case with the first two, as well, at least while there's still substantial circulation.
Would defintely press R down sharply if 80% had at least that much protection. Well, if 80% had protection it would crush R, but along the way.
Don't think they have data on the variants yet.

We got our 1st doses of Moderna yesterday and will get #2 in 4 weeks.
Have no intention of changing our approach, which mirrors yours.
Best thing personally is that we have/will decreased the possibility that we might get sick and die.
I’m terribly thankful for that, especially for the Mother of my children, who seem to adore her. And she’s very youthful and attractive for her age so if anything happened to me she’d have a good shot at spending a few years with a decent Man.

Indeed.
I've been fortunate to get through the important things in life without death or disability.
Now I just want to hang around as companion to my spouse, god willing.

Re: 72% effective in the US, 66% in Latin America, but only ....
57% effective in South Africa. In another few weeks, it won't be worth much here unless they modify it to include the variant strains.
I wonder if it's worth the $1.5 billion, $15 per dose?

Re: 70% effective to the variants or ...
I've never been super worried about getting it, although perhaps I overestimate my resilience.
It is a matter of what a prudent and patriotic person who doesn't want to harm others should do.
So if it is what is available, the public health implications of taking what is available as soon as you can is more important than holding out for what might be the best personal protection.
