Re: Amazing!

Isn't it all just a vicious circle?  A person gets their job outsourced to China.  After exhausting their unemployment benefits, they find themselves working for minimum wage at Mickey D's.  Because of the situation they find themselves in, they now have to buy their products from Wally World where most of the products sold there are manufactured in China.

Re: Amazing!

Id submit that he arc on that circle is much wider than that.

Over 30 years the business and financial communities have perfected extraction and bleeding dry of workers and porducers via ownershipof a Congress that has sanctioned trade agreements and blind  deregulation of all aspects of finance and credit.

The only thing that cold have stopped that from happening would have been a government that would have demanded fairness in trade and commerce and not dergulated  the banks...wouldn't have allowed commercial banks and non-banksto becoe investmetn banks for starters.

If that would have been propossed, however, "conservative" forces would have decried it as socialism. In fact they did do that. In the election campaign of 1980. It was the primary theme. A kindergarden level excersize in getting the little people to democraticly install the cannibals that were going to stew them.

We've actually lasted quite a while leading up to facing what we do now, which you and Sam describe well.

Of course, the only thing that can get us out of that is a proactive government, and any chance of that has been sunk by the same forces who sunk  the ship  we are on. And the "conservative" little people are on board again, or so it seems.

Re: Amazing!

Nah, a pro active government is what got us here. If they had nonproactively let the criminal fail we(d be on our way by now. The best we can hope for is that our totalitarian government fails. One thing you overlook Bruce in your view of our problems with Chinese trade is that the imbalance is not possible for long periods of time without the huge government borrowing the liberals favor. Take that away and a hard correction in trade would have already happened.

Re: Amazing!

Either you've got a short memory or had a clouded look. The seminal moment in this round of final ciris was 2007-2008 and the condintion of the banks.

If we had PRO-actively let them fail or run them in on charges, then what you say would have happened probably would have by now. Quite possibly immediately. (I do beleive that you and I agreed upon that at the time) But it was NON-proactive measures that were taken to get us to that point. The TARP and the lack of enforcement were done under duress, by a sold out and  bought and paid for, totlally owned Congress that knew exactly what it was that they were and  WEREN"T doing.

One of the tragedies of the bagger movement is that it got rid of a few of those members of Congress who spoke out in opposition to the public paying the wages of crime. Russ Feingold and Alan Grayyson come to mind. Replaced by corporatist/bankster toadies disguised as freid of little people.

Re: Amazing!

I don't know how much they should make.  How about you?  Do you know?  All I do know is that they can't make $10.7 billion in profit in 3 months getting only 7 cents a gallon which is what they said and one of your boyz posted it on here a week or two ago.

Re: Amazing!

I think our difference of opinion is that in your view the failure was the government run economy was sabotaged, whereas I view the failure as the idea that an economy could be centrally run.

Re: Amazing!

I'm not so sure that the government "runs the economy". What the government essentially does, generally quite poorly and inefficiently all the while perpetually vulnerable to corruption., is attempt to manage carnage.

At times with the full blessing and encouragement of a majority of the public and at times not. We are in a cycle now where it appers on the surface that the noisiest fraction wants it to not. Until of course it's piled to high.

Did you read the Y. Smith entry on the FDR-Hoover race of 1932 and who campaigned on what platform? FDR ran on cutting and austerity....Hoover on stimulus.
