How it happened

the greatest upset in modern presidential election history.

"There's a huge divide in the Dem race between people who have landlines and people who don't, and your polls are going to massively overstate Clinton's support if you don't contact the people without them," he said. PPP had found Clinton up 10 points in a mid-February poll.

Young voters turned out in much higher numbers than anticipated. Exit polls from NBC News showed that 37% of voters were between the age of 18 and 39. And 21% overall were between 18 and 29. Mitchell said he had only projected 8.7% of the total vote would come from those between 18 and 39. His survey also had Sanders winning that age group by a 2-to-1 split. Exit polls showed he won the age group by about 4-to-1."

I'd like to assume that the same will apply to OH, IL and FLA. We'll see.

He reiterates what you said about rust belt/upper Midwest African Americans being a different breed of cat than in the old Confederacy.

Re: How it happened

It`s all about turnout in these primaries.  It`s one thing to say "I`m gonna vote for Hillary" it`s another thing to put down the pork rind bag, get off the couch and actually do it.   The Bernie supporters were a little more energized..."Yippee free college!".

So, if Bernie won Michigan how did Hillary get the delegates?

Re: How it happened

Michigan has a proportional Primary.  They split the delegates.

You seriously didn't know that?

Re: How it happened

Insofar as 30% vs. 10% is a big deal. Which at the margin it is. And also I gather that turnout in some of the urban districts was less than stellar- voting hours were extended an hour in some places but was that a function of same 'ol- a republican state election board putting too few machines in those precincts (it gives more time to check the IDs, I guess).

I think that needle can be moved a bit farther, particularly if the $%^& MSM would get the memo and temporarily suspend the Clinton coronation.

But anyway, I just adore those "kids". Makes me as optimistic about our future as this place makes me suicidal.

Re: How it happened

Even though Bernie won Michigan, when you take into account "super delegates" Hillary got more.  Your Democrat primaries are just a formality for Hillary`s coronation.  This explains it.

Re: How it happened

Super delegates don't officially cast their votes until the tally of the delegate's votes is in at the national convention.  It's quite a stretch to imagine that enough super delegates would cast votes against the winner on the floor to overturn the result that reflects the voting public's wishes..  Sure, the MSM is tallying those for Hillary, as they are operating under the presumption that she has the nomination in the bag.

There are are a number of state primaries coming up that are winner take all.  It's far from a cinch.
