By definition the US is a 'democracy' as is Canada.

I probably did not make it understood that the problem is with how the people's voice is heard and how it is not heard equal to the numbers speaking.

That is how people are able to get elected and parties get to be in power with less that a majority of the votes.

So that is not a true representation of how democracy is intended to work.

The original 'democracy' had everyone casting a vote on every decision not just for someone else to represent you.

BTW you do know that the present Conservative party in power in Ottawa with a majority of the seats was elected with around 38% of the voters casting votes for their representatives.

While we are a 'democracy' we do not have true representation of all the people or even a majority of them.
