Of course they will end abortion. they will freeze social security, cut medicare, (especially to children of unwed mothers who don't vote) cut farm programs(75% of which are nutrition programs). they will end federally subsidized crop insurance, increase offshore oil drilling, and also in the alaskan national wildlife refuge. Increase the amount of people patrolling for aliens coming in from mexico. the increased patrols will be all volunteer since we can't afford the budget increase to pay anymore federal employees. Cut the postal system. do away with inhertance tax. (not realizing that there is already a $2 million dollar exemption/person.  Ban gay marriage, cut wall street regulationa nd oversight since it stymies free market economoics. good grief, there's more, but I gotta go spray.

Re: Less regulation

Actually, in a nut shell, banks were allowed to "not be banks" , and take on unacceptable risk. People should have the choice of an interest bearing deposit, at a FDIC insured bank, or to take risk...ie caveat emptor.  Maybe if more people were aware that they could lose everything, they would be more cautious with investments, and they would not depend on government regulators. Which actually would be a good thing...it still gets back to personal responsibility. I lost half of my retirement savings to the 2008 crash, but guess what? I got it all back, and then some, by changing my investment mix. That was a choice I made, the government did not do it for me...I took on risk and I got rewarded.

And maybe do away with dangerous activitities. Obama , for example, should not have embraced that moron Sarah Palin's mantra of "drill, baby, drill", and should have went down the "conserve, innovate, and protect" route. Government actually should have a role in protecting the environment, it is a function that the private markets will not be able to do. Obama and his gang of socialists cannot even figure that one out...they want to stick their skinny liitle fingers where they don't belong, and they are too impotent to try to do the things they actually should be doing.

I can run a business with or without subsidies. You deal with the cards on the table....at least grown men do. THey don't sit around and sulk and cry like a baby. Get a life.

Re: I Suppose .....

I suppose that there are a sizable enough population group that actually perceives organized communism/socialism as a positive life plan.... much as the jihadists see blowing themselves up in the name of Allah, as a positive life plan (all those virgins and stuff, ya know).

I suppose that we will find out soon enough.  Almost half of the country pay no income taxes, so see picking the pockets of their neighbors as a good thing, so will vote for the ideology that will enable them to legally continue to do so..... as long as there is money to take, but ..... what happens when they run out of other people's money? (that is the ultimate question, and why socialism has always, and will always FAIL)

Sooner or later (probably sooner), the states will begin to seriously consider parting ways with the socialists..... Texas, Montana, Utah, maybe Alaska..... will seek to become there own country.  Those who are getting sick and tired of getting their pockets picked, will locate to those new areas.

The leftists will then be left to wither on the vine and perish.... then the conservatives will then move back to what is left, and re-build.

To everything there is a Season, and change will no doubt, come.

Re: I Suppose .....

Do you suppose the new confederation will want to join NAFTA? Engage in maritme treaties and agreements? Take up a seat at the UN? Have enough newly indigenous population to get all of the work done? Muster and fund it's own military force?

See ya'.

Might work better for you to take the advice of the author and figure out a way to win enough federal elections to regain control in D.C..

Re: It Has Happened Before

It has happened before.... the grumbling rabble (about 21% of the population) had a belly full of the controlling empire (Britain), mustered their own army and started their own country.

Within a century, they had become the makings of a world power.

I went back and read the comments of the Time article again.... the replies are a hoot..... especially the one about Obama repelling a Martian invasion! *chuckling hard*

Actually, I would expect a good part of the country to separate from the hammer and sickle bunch..... The Dakotas, Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma, the west half of Iowa, the South (except Huston, N'aahlins, and far south Floriduh), and the Inter-mountain West.

Re: It Has Happened Before

Lots of intersting news about over the past few weeks about conservative Governors in the Gulf region pleading to the federal govt. for assistance and releif in light of the situation there.

Will your new (now expanded substaintially, I see) confederation of states be able to help in such times? Will it (gasp) seek to regulate activities in such a manner as to keep things like this from happening again and elsewhere? What will be your recourse when water flows down from somewhere else on the continent and effects you, or when you's does likewise to some downstream area in the "old country"? Maybe you can handle that the way China does.
