Re: I went to Farm Fest yesterday
60 percent of you would have went bust in the eighties without the program and without the disaster relief that began in 1988. Once the farm program was truly a “food security act”
Going broke is capitalism.
Getting a handout from the government is socialism.
You all seem to think socialism is OK for you but not for people who do not have enough to buy food.
Those people 'should get a job and pay for their own food'......right?

Whom are these people that are not allowed to be in production agriculture?
Anyone and everyone can make themselves eligible for agricultural program payments / socialism - don't complain, get in the game.

Re: I went to Farm Fest yesterday
Well Canuck, it`s like this, if there`s a powerline going through the middle of your field and a big storm snaps off some poles. The power company goes out in your field to repair them and get electricity back to the towns and in the process they smash down some of your corn getting to thee poles and they assess damages and give you a check for your downed corn. The town people that got their electricity back are happy, you`re happy you got paid for your damaged corn and the power company did it`s job.
That`s the way with paying farmers for a grain price disruption while getting the "electricity back" in the greater market with a fairer trade balance.

Re: I went to Farm Fest yesterday
we do have a major world power that would love to take our country over, though, and has been gobbling up resources at a steady clip.
you need constant vigilance to keep your freedoms and treasures.

Re: I went to Farm Fest yesterday
Not the same BA.
Just because the market price falls is not a reason for socialism payments IF you are really a capitalist society.
If you are not a Capitalist society then say so and dole out the government money BUT you have to pay your taxes to have money to dole out OR try to continue for a while longer borrowing from China to make the payments.
Problem with China lending you the money to make socialist payments is they want their 'pound of flesh' one way or another WITH interest.
So the net is do not claim to be a capitalist if you run to the government for more $$ every time your 'capitalist' business runs short on income.

Re: I went to Farm Fest yesterday
This country has medicare, medicade, social security, student loans, scholarships, IPERS, pensions. We subsidize big oil with tax breaks on oil revenues and little trillion dollar things like the Gulf War to ensure the "free flow of oil at world prices. We have cheap interest loans for home buyers, there`s public housing for inner city hardup clowns.
We do all that, I think a market adjustment payment to farmers with the end greater good for the rest of the country makes perfect sense in this mostly capitalistic country on God`s green earth.
