Seriously, there's nothing that stirs those of authoritarian bent more thoroughly than the thought of civil unrest, even if it is small and far away.
BTW, let's go with the more conventional explanation of what happened in DC and Berkeley- that a small group of anarchists created a bit of violence in the midst of what were otherwise large, peaceful demonstrations. It is 100% certain in both cases that there was nothing approaching mass civil unrest and a small group practicing it did not entice its spread.
I hope that mass demonstrations continue but the participants are going to have to get smarter about detecting those elements and somehow seperating from them.
